Question

Unable to Save InDesign Files Directly to NAS Server

Hello, why can't I upload files to Indd when it worked fine for years. Most graphic designers and studios work with NAS devices. I can't save anything, I have to make copies and restore files. Can something be done about it? Thank you very much rh

Hi Adobe team,

I am having the same issue with my Indesign files (using a MacBook Pro). As an in-house designer, I work with a large volume of files, and it isn’t efficient to save them locally moving them to our servers. What is the current timeline for resolving this issue?

My current version of Indesign is: Version 21.2

Thanks
Selin.

Hi @Celine35709910p1p3,

Sorry to hear you’re running into this, I understand how disruptive this can be for your workflow. Could you please confirm the exact error message you see when trying to save files directly to the NAS drive?

It would also help if you could share details about the network path, such as the number of hops involved in reaching the NAS server. Additionally, were you able to involve your IT or network team to check if the connection and permissions are working as expected on their end?

Also, please confirm if this issue is limited to InDesign only or if you’re seeing similar behavior with any other non-Creative Cloud applications as well.

Looking forward to your update so we can take this forward.

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,
Thanks for getting back to me. Please see the answers below.

  1. The network path used is a standard corporate network shared drive ( eg \server-name\shared-drive\folder)
  2. At this stage, we have not received similar reports with other non-adobe applications saving to the same network path
  3. Other Applications are able to save files to the network drive without any issues however last week Adobe Illustrator couldn’t save one file.
  4. We have verified that users have the correct permissions to the network share and the network connection is stable and functioning as expected.
  5. Error screenshot is attached.

    Thanks
    Celine.

Can you describe with detail your NAS and how it is set up? Some NAS are setup with software to backup your computer. Some NAS can also be mapped as a network drive allowing direct read/write. How is yours installed?

Hi @Relo,

We completely understand how frustrating it can be when something that worked perfectly for years suddenly stops.

Could you please share which version of InDesign you’re using and the details of your operating system? Also, is this issue happening with all files stored on the NAS server, or just a particular file?

InDesign can sometimes have trouble saving files directly to network drives. A common workaround is to save the file locally first, then manually move it to the NAS. Additionally, you could try checking if the NAS server permissions or connection settings have changed recently, which might be causing the issue.

Let me know if this helps, and I’m happy to assist further!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Thank you very much for your reply, I always use the latest versions of Adobe collection on a monthly subscription basis. But the solution after so many years to save something locally and then copy it to the NAS is frustrating as I pay a lot of money to Adobe. In addition, I work in a team, so several of us access the NAS. Some graphic designers work from home. The NAS was thoroughly checked several times by an IT technician and the intakes were reviewed. Illustrator, Photoshop works fine. Only Indd closes its temporary files and they cannot be subsequently saved. The problem occurred only after some time, about 6-9 months of using the NAS. It makes my work harder and longer. It happens that graphics that are not current for the client are used and this causes financial costs. I would be very happy if you could solve the problem. I read the forums and there are many of us with this problem. Thank you very much for your reply Horvath.
