Unable to Save InDesign Files Directly to NAS Server

Hello, why can't I upload files to Indd when it worked fine for years. Most graphic designers and studios work with NAS devices. I can't save anything, I have to make copies and restore files. Can something be done about it? Thank you very much rh

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience, and I’m sorry for the disruption this issue has caused, particularly for workflows that rely on saving InDesign files directly to network servers.

This behavior has been logged as a bug, and the product team is actively investigating and working on a fix.

In the meantime, as a workaround, please try switching the server connection/file-sharing protocol from AFP to SMB and test the workflow again. We have seen reports where the issue does not occur when using SMB.

Please let us know whether switching to SMB resolves the issue for you. I’ll continue to follow the progress and update this thread as soon as we have more information.

Thanks again for your patience!

Abhishek

Can you describe with detail your NAS and how it is set up? Some NAS are setup with software to backup your computer. Some NAS can also be mapped as a network drive allowing direct read/write. How is yours installed?

Hi @Relo,

We completely understand how frustrating it can be when something that worked perfectly for years suddenly stops.

Could you please share which version of InDesign you’re using and the details of your operating system? Also, is this issue happening with all files stored on the NAS server, or just a particular file?

InDesign can sometimes have trouble saving files directly to network drives. A common workaround is to save the file locally first, then manually move it to the NAS. Additionally, you could try checking if the NAS server permissions or connection settings have changed recently, which might be causing the issue.

Let me know if this helps, and I’m happy to assist further!

Best,

Thank you very much for your reply, I always use the latest versions of Adobe collection on a monthly subscription basis. But the solution after so many years to save something locally and then copy it to the NAS is frustrating as I pay a lot of money to Adobe. In addition, I work in a team, so several of us access the NAS. Some graphic designers work from home. The NAS was thoroughly checked several times by an IT technician and the intakes were reviewed. Illustrator, Photoshop works fine. Only Indd closes its temporary files and they cannot be subsequently saved. The problem occurred only after some time, about 6-9 months of using the NAS. It makes my work harder and longer. It happens that graphics that are not current for the client are used and this causes financial costs. I would be very happy if you could solve the problem. I read the forums and there are many of us with this problem. Thank you very much for your reply Horvath.
