Why do I get SharedContent plugin error?

My indd document was created in iD CS5.5. On opening in iD CS5, there is a popup which says that SharedContent plugin was used in the creation of the file. The popup then provides the option to proceed anyway. Will I be safe doing that, or is there a workflow for installing the plugin in CS5?

    Correct answer Steve Werner

You cannot open an InDesign CS5.5 file directly in InDesign CS5. You need to choose File > Export > IDML and open the IDML file in InDesign CS4 or CS5.

    Hello,

I'm having the same trouble as many others have had on here. Is it possible for someone to help me convert a CS5.5 file (or possibly newer) to a CS5 file? I greatly appreciate it and thank you for your time!

The file I need converted is below

    Dropbox - August

Hello all --- I am having the same problem (InDesign file won't open, cites several missing plug-ins and instructs "Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest versions of Adobe InDesign) so I downloaded the trial version of CS5.5 (was using CS5 previously) and the file still won't open.

Any suggestions?? I need this file for work and I'm on a tight deadline - any help is much appreciated!!

    Thank you!

    Allison

If you are really stuck and have not done that before, download the new Indesign CC, open your old file and save it as a CS4 file and then open it with your Indesign CS4, it will save the file as an .idml and you will not get the message error/Suzanne

Could somebody give me any idea why i am getting the same error (as others) when I am using the same version of InDesign to create a document a year ago but cannot open it now?

I only have CS5, so i dont understand why I can't open the document now?

My guess is you ran a trial of a later version somewhere along the line.

You're not the first to claim that a file is a certain version only to find

    out it's not.

You're probably right... i do seem to remember having a trial version of CS5.5, but all is not lost... luckily, i saved an IDML file. Thanks for your reply!

I just barely had this same thing happen to me. Anyone willing to save my file and then send it back in the correct format? It would be much appreciated!

Has anyone helped you yet? I'm going to be out for most of the day, but I can do it this evening if you send me a link to the file. You can use a file share service like YouSendIt.com to send it to yourself if you don't have another way to post it someplace, then put the link in a Private Message and send it to me (click my name to go to my profile and you'll see Send Private Message in the list on the right). In your message be sure to tell me waht version you need to be able to open in.

That file should open in CS4 as-is. It appears to be damaged...
