I have already read previous message about it but no solution or broken link

I try to delete image and I always get this error

"?:0: attempt to index field 'rootFile' (a nil value)"

I cant find the solution, the folder all in read and delete so what to do ? because I can manage without any issue my external diskthis ,is lightroom 11.3.1 and os 12.3.1

Any idea please ?

I am experiencing blank thumbnails (83 in last import) error and also started getting a: lightroom ?:0 attempt to index field 'rootFile' error.

Running Lightroom Classic version 14.0.1 on OS X Sonoma 14.7.2 on an Intel macbook pro.

I was able to "thin" my last import without getting the rootFile error by carefully deleting only files from disk and catalog. Other thumbnails showed the exclamation point for missing file and these were removed from catalog. That left me with the 83 greyed out thumbnails.

I also turned off two old Rob Cole plugins. Cannot remove the grey thumbnails though.

Hi there!
I got a serious pb that is getting worse every day...

On my PC W10 I run Lightroom Classic since years.

SInce a couple of week I got lost link between image files and previews files (grey rectangle intead of preview displayed). When I try to send the command "Photo/Display in File Finder" i got systematicly this error ?:0: attempt to index field 'rootFile' (a nil value) displayed in a green box each time .

I read previous posts and did 2 actions;

1. Unactive all external modules including LogiOption : no effect after LR restart

2. Create a new catalog and import from corrupted one : same error message, no photo imported...

So could somebody help me out?

When I'm trying to batch/sync my edits to multiple photos, I'm getting this error. This is the first time I'm receiving this error.

"nil value" error messages arise from low-level programming errors that have many different causes. Reviewing past threads, this particular variant doesn't appear to be associated with the Logioptions plugin, but you don't have that plugin installed in any case.

- This particular error was associated with the grey "ghost thumbnails" bug a year or two ago that corrupted catalogs, but your screenshot doesn't show them.

- A couple people reported that this error arose in years past when they problems with folder permissions, and that might be striking you. Something changed in Mac OS 12.3.1, and many people are finding they need to grant LR Full Disk Access. See:

- If that doesn't help, one person reporting resetting permissions fixed the problem:

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

Same issue, none of the remommended changes seem to help... anyone have any other solutions?? attempts to remove corrupt photo changes it name. cannot find the corrupt image (S), all kinds of strange things occuring.

In the past, this issue was due to an incompatibility between Lightroom Classic and some third party plug-ins. The usual supect being Logitechs 'Logi Options'.

If you're unsure whether you have above plug-in installed, then go to File > Plug-in Manager and look for Logi Options in the list. If you find it, click Disable in the Status panel on the right.

I believe the Smugmug plug-in is another potentional culprit. So, follow the same procedure as set out above.
