The cause was that Adobe domains were being blocked in the Windows hosts file. Here is what fixed it:

    1. Search for Notepad in the Windows Start menu.

    2. Right-click Notepad and select “Run as administrator.”

    3. In Notepad, go to File > Open.

    4. Open this file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

    5. Change the file type from “Text Documents” to “All Files” so the hosts file becomes visible.

    6. Search for “adobe”.

    7. Delete any lines containing Adobe domains, especially entries pointing to: 127.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 For example: 127.0.0.1 adobe.com 0.0.0.0 ims-na1.adobelogin.com

    8. Save the hosts file.

    9. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run: ipconfig /flushdns

    10. Restart Lightroom Classic.

After removing the blocked Adobe entries, Lightroom was able to connect to Adobe servers again, and the AI masking models downloaded successfully. Make sure you only remove Adobe-related entries and leave unrelated hosts entries unchanged.

I am still on Windows 10, and yes it closed normally.  It is the last two updates that is causing the problem.  I had to go back to 2 versions ago to get it working again.  Something in those last two updates is causing the problem.

Hey, @joshs8347015. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I am sorry for the trouble you've had with this issue.

What operating system are you working on? Did Lightroom close normally the last time it worked, or is this a fresh installation on this machine? Try these steps to get Lightroom to launch:

    • Reset Lightroom by holding the OPT/ALT + SHIFT when you launch Lightroom and select 'Yes'.

    • macOS: Ensure Lightroom has the required permissions: https://adobe.ly/3DyUwsz

    • Windows: Go to the Lightroom installation folder > right-click Lightroom.exe > Run as Administrator

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks!
