Question

Auto-tone still not working on all selected images

Many images selected in the Lib module, press auto in the tonecontrols, previews update and show changes, go to the develop module and find that maybe 40% have taken the changes.

I am currently going through 15 years of images so this very annoying as I don't wanna spend months.

This has been a bug for a long time, still no solution in sight.

Adobe support gives tips to fix this that do not work.

Does anybody have a tip or do I just have to live with this ?

cheers everybody

Stephan

And about configuration

Not to panic, once you get your initial configuration set, it gets easier. Mind you, you may set it up once, be happy, and neverr change again.

thx so much for all the info, it is working now. I never would have thought to look for that in the file menu🧐

Only downside is that it is very slow, but it makes time for a cup of tea, so I'll enjoy that.

oh and thx for pointing out the oddities...

much appreciated and good to know that you are one of the people who really care. The world desperately needs more people like YOU.

love

So problem not solved within LR, but with a plugin.S.A.

Can't really believe that a bug this old can't be fixed, but then probably not enough people complaining about it.

Thx again to GoldingD

To use that plugin, first you need to bring up the Plug-In Extras. And for the first use (at least) you need to configure it (2), after it is configured, you can apply it to your images, or leave that for later.  If you like the configuration you save, then in the future you can just select Apply (3) Configuration is a bit tricky (I may follow this with another reply as to configuration tips)

Searching the web to see if their is a document on Library Module Auto batch limits (no, I have not found such) I stumbled on the link below.

Looks like a long unsolved unanswered bug:

that where i ended up years ago, just thought it might be solved by now.

And no, I am not Sherlok Holmes, so I've no intention to research this to death with a software, I am actually paying for...

Thx a lot for your help anyway, the upping of the cache brought some real improvement.

cheers

Instead of using the Library Module Auto Tone, consider a plugin that controls how the Develop Module Auto Tone runs. This is a plugin that comes with a plugin group Bag-Oh_Goodies. The particular plugin is Personalized Auto Tone. It takes a bit of work to initially set up (read the directions carefully) but works like a champ.

I use it as to limit the Auto Tone in the develop module to just Exposure, Whites, and Blacks, not allowing the remainder.

You use it by selecting plug-in extras, and selecting the plugin (not by clicking on Auto Tone)

Is there a certain number of images selected where the auto tone works, and if just one more, auto tone fails?

Yes, not a solution.

As for those Library previews not yet completed. When they do finish, does the Develop Module then still have issues? Thinking that if the library preview creation is busy, then LrC performance may be hindered in the Develop Module.

Now, yes, I realize the Library previews are not the Develop module previews. Just thinking that perhaps LrC has not caught up. (as in waite for me I am busy)

But, speaking of Develop module previews, what do you have set for Camera RAW CACHE (limit)  in /'prefemces/performance/?

5 GB, which should be enough. And i have waited for the libmodule to finish.

The default 5 GB is never enough. Most members increase that to 20 GB as a start.  Some sources recommend at least 40 GB. Unless you are working on several hundred photos during one LrC session, 20 GB should work. Even Adobe recommends (well they say experiment) at least 10 GB (see first link below) despite the default being 5 GB, note it used to be 1 GB, you would think they would increase the default. This will effect performance in the Develop Module, not in the Library module.

While you are in the Library module, and you have the grid view shown. And assuming you can see enough of the images you want to apply the Auto Tone to. After you select them and then click on that Auto button, do you notice a message referring to the process occurring and how many images are effected and do you notice each preview changing

no message, but 3 dots in top right corner, each preview changing, but changes not carrying over to the develop module on about 60% of the images.

3 dots?

Can you post a screenshot?
