I need to upgrade my Microsoft Windows 10 computer to run Lightroom 7

Looking at a

Dell 5482 i7 2-1 Notebook

Intel Core i7-8565U processor

14.0-inch FHD 1920x1080 touch display

16GB DDR4 RAM

512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe solid state drive

NVIDIA MX130 2GB graphics

Windows 10 home

My concern is that some reviews I have read say it lacks half of the colors in sRGB

Is this a problem?

Should I look at something else?

Thanks in advance

    It's actually true

This display has an extremely limited gamut, so limited that it's fairly useless for photographic work. I found this in a laptopmedia.com review. It's a bit difficult to trace display vs sRGB in this crowded diagram, but "half" is actually not far from the mark:

This is also a useful reminder that laptop displays in general are pretty inferior. They are no match to a half-decent desktop display, no matter what the marketing wants you to believe. The overriding consideration in a laptop display is space. That goes before everything else.

The display is what you base your editing decisions on. It directly affects the quality of your work. It makes much more sense to buy a good display with a cheap computer, than the other way round.

Is the 2 in 1 (aka Hybrid) form important to you?

Fairly new marketing, leading to, for now, few options.

    CPU choice limited

    GPU (on MB) choices limited

RAM limited, but yes 16GB is available, not so important to LR, but think PS, etc

VRAM limited, not currently so important to LR, but.......

following link just included because I stumbled upon it. Dell not mentioned

ahh, apparently 2 in 1 laptops are built with the battery life being paramount, and as such, cannot support faster CPUs or better bigger GPUs

I don't know what reviews you read that say it lacks half of the colors, this is utter nonsense.

As far as the rest of the information you provided, I think for LR you want the fastest processor you can afford. The i7-8565U isn't particularly fast by today's standards, you might want to look for a faster CPU.

Also, as far as hardware goes, the minimum requirements are generally useless, no one sells computers with minimum requirements any more.

Also, you can't buy Lightroom 7 any more, the current version of Lightroom Classic is 8.3.1.

Speaking of just CPU, perhaps something in the direction of a 9th generation Intel?

Probably meaning a laptop marketed for gamers?

note, IMO, computers marketed as for gamers typically faster CPU, faster GPU, more RAM, more VRAM, but watch out for undesired overclocking. Watch out for heat issues.

    Hi timothyp,

As per the minimum and recommend Lightroom Classic system requirements the Dell 5482 i7 2-1 notebook should run Lightroom just fine. I do not see any blockers or major concern here.

    Thanks,
