Cruise ship photography business needs PS and LR

Hi, I run a new photography business on a couple of cruise ships sailing worldwide. We need to have PS & LR onboard to process images of passengers. Since the internet connection is spotty and extremely slow while at sea, my thought was to install the disk versions of both on a desktop PC we use onboard.

Question: Should I buy the the subscription version which can run without an internet connection? Or would it make more sense to buy them on DVD?

Thank you in advance.

The current version of LR and PS (known as Lightroom CC 2015 and Photoshop CC), require internet connectivity at the time of installation and then once every 99 days. You can be offline during those 99 days and everything will work. It doesn't matter if you download the software or buy it on CD/DVD. Lightroom 6 requires internet connectivity only at the time of installation. See https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-cc6-myths-confusion/

The only time you will need a fast internet connection is when downloading upgrades. For all the rest, a connection from time to time to check payment status is OK (as dj_paige says, there is a 99 days window). I didn't check with a data-meter, but I would say that the information exchanged should be minimal. So even on a slow internet, it should not be too disturbing. You should, however, download upgrades, when you have a fast connection. Fortunately, there is rarely a reason for an update. The thing I would miss is access to the help resources.

If you need only Lr, you can also go with the perpetual Lr6 license. But in your initial request you stated you would like go for Ps too.

You cannot acquire any more a non CC license of Photoshop. So for this one at least you need a CC license.

Thanks! The photographers onboard are all very experienced with PS and LR so the help resources are not an issue. Thanks again.
