Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2024 not working

I get the prompt that Lightroom and Photoshop are having issues connecting. I've tried resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic and photoshop. As well I have re-installed them both through the Creative Cloud App.

Still doesn't work 😞

Any other ideas out there?

Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.11.0 20240716.r.706 b326a7d x64

Lightroom Classic version: 13.5 [ 202408062022-6258095b ]
Windows 10 Pro

Check Lightroom Preferences->External Editing and check for the dropdown if Photoshop 2025 is selected. Not photoshop 2024.

This worked for me with out unistalling anything

Thanks for responding. Photoshop 2025 just was released in the Netherlands and indeed this is working also. Thanks!

Hi,

Lightroom Classic (version 13.5.1) can't connect to Adobe Photoshop 2024 (version 25.12) fully updated.
But... I also have installed the Beta version of Photoshop (version 26.0.0) and LRC does not connect to the Beta version either.

I searched the community but only found posts from 2018, i think not relevant anymore?

I have the Dutch version of both LRC and PS. Preferences external editing in LRC are on Photoshop 2024.

Adobe advices in the error message to install Photoshop again...

Will this solve the problem? I think it is a Lightroom issue?

There are lots of reports here. Reinstalling Photoshop (not Lightroom) does solve the issue. What also solves it (at least for me it did) is selecting Photoshop beta as the external editor.

Thanks a lot JohanElzinga! Selecting PS beta as external editor did the trick. Good enough for me!

Simply uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop resolved the issue for me.

Hello everyone,

Uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop via CC has solved the issue for me (MacPro + Sonoma 14.6.1) . I hope this works for you too.

(Close LR before.)

Good luck.

SEPT 23 2024 UPDATE

via the cc app (windows 10 - desktop) i updated LRc to 13.5 and PS 2024 to 25.12.0 20240903.r.806 055f5e9 x64

got the not connecting issue between the two program.

1. restarted the computer - didn't work

2. reset the preferences - restarted both programs -- didn't work

3. forced LRc preferences to use PS as the second choice -- didn't work

4. uninstalled PS Beta -- didn't work

5. downgraded LRc to 13.4 -- everything worked.

I'm glad i had an hour to blow while I'm working on deadline

Thanks for reporting the issue.  Warning dialog indicates a problem with the Photoshop installation. Typically, reinstalling Photoshop resolves this issue. However, since reinstallation hasn’t worked in this case, which is unusual, I have a few questions to help us diagnose the problem:
  1. Antivirus Software: Do you have any antivirus software installed on your machines? If so, could you try disabling the antivirus and then reinstalling Photoshop?
  2. Folder Permissions: Could you please check and share the permissions for the following folders?
  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

Right, so guys I found a workaround. For now, I know it works on macOS, I have no idea regarding windows as I do not have a windows machine, but feel free to try.

So, what I did was to go to Preferences>External Editing and just adding Photoshop again as the second external editing choice. It didn't work the first time, as Lightroom said that Photoshop is already selected as the default external editing source, but the second time I tried it let me set it as the second external editing choice.

It is either this, or in my case, downgrade to 12.4, that was the last version in which I could start Photoshop from Lightroom.

I have attached a screenshot with my External Editing tab to better understand.

I just wish adobe could fix this and I wouldn't have to find workarounds, but until then, this is the best shot.

Thank you!

This worked, after weeks of trying to figure it out, setting PS as the secondary editing preference seemed to help with this newest version.  I'm actually talking to a support rep now and they're saying there is no known issue - which is weird as this seems to be ongoing for quite some time according to the community forum.  Luckily I found this as I was waiting for them to respond.  Hopefully they will fix this immediately as it is an issue.

Try this (from a completely unrelated post involving PS Beta option)

  1. Close LrC
  2. Bring up PS
  3. Open LrC, in LrC /Preferences/External Editing/ double check the PS is shown
  4. Try your Edit

nothing . . .still persists

In extreme cases, when uninstalling PS, some members need to remove the existing preference file. As I remember it, that is an option, and the default is to keep the preferences file. So when you uninstalled PS, did you remove the preferences file (the PS preferences file)

I believe I did, but I will try again to be certain.
