Question

How to import HEIC / HEIF metadata? Not supported?

I have HEIC files with metadata in them, exif metadata. I can see this in windows file explorer and other image editors. When importing to Lightroom, there is none at all. I've tried "read metadata from file", reimporting several times, etc.

It just doesn't show up.

In general, LR does fully support HEIC photos, including EXIF metadata. So there's likely an incompatibility between LR and the hardware/software combination producing your photos (one or the other isn't following the standard).  I suggest uploading a problem photo to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and posting the sharing link here.  We can put it under the microscope to see what's going wrong.

I poked at that file multiple ways using Exiftool and couldn't see anything obviously nonconforming about it. (Exiftool often is able to read nonconforming files but usually issues warnings when it does.)

I suggest you post a bug report:

and include the link to the sample photo.
