Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

I had the same problem with CS4 on my mac. I forced LR2 to open in 32bit mode and everything then worked perfectly. Might work with cs3? Good luck!

If you are a Vista 64 bit user and are dealing with this issue then you will need to make sure that Lightroom 2.1 and CS3 are being run in Administrator mode. I had this issue in Lightroom 2.0 and thought the 2.1 would solve it, but it did not, even after following all the steps in http://www.adobe.com/go/kb404907

To set administrator mode for a specific program do the following:

For Lightroom: Drill to the \Program Files\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom folder on your C: drive. Right-click on Lightroom.exe and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box in the Privilege Level section and save the change.

For CS3: do the same thing, except that the executable is Photoshop.exe and is located in the Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom folder. CS3 is not a 64 bit app, that's why it is in a different folder.

Then the Ctrl-E function should work if you have followed all the steps in the kb404907 article.

If you are running 32-bit Vista (which I am not) the same steps would work (except that both executables are located in the Program Files folder.

For this part of the puzzle you can blame Microsoft as it's because of the annoying "User Access Control" feature, which essentially keeps you from running with elevated privileges even if you logged in account is in the Administartors group.

Regarding this post which I originally posted, I have solved my problem with the help of Adobe -- my Lightroom files which could not be properly edited in Photoshop, had a weird filenaming system, whereby the files were named Sam {Filename»}--101.jpg. I don't know how I got that name sequence into my recent files, but that was it. When I chamged the name to "Sam", it imported fine. Thanks Adobe.

"Now, it opens the dialog box to chose a file in Photoshop. Is this the way it is supposed to be? In my mind, this is not useful.

    Freddi"

    Hi Freddi
I had the same problem with some of my pictures until I found out that it only happened when I used the Swedish letters å, ä and ö in the folder name that the picture existed in. It seems LR having problems with some characters other than a-z.

    Good luck!

Kevin, I have been experiencing the same thing as Justin (#361) and others.
Have LR2.1RC/PS 10.0.1/ Scripting Support 10.0.1 on a Vista 64 Box. Apologies in advance if I have missed something on all these threads, but isolated when this problem occurs for me.

I can open a RAW file into PS using the Edit in PS CS3 (CTL-E), but on save in PS, the PSD would not appear imported into the LR Catalog.
I think a key thing is that I have LR and PS on one drive (C:) and my LR catalog and Pictures folder on another(D:). Don't know if others with this issue have a similar setup.

I saw something on "ghost folders" and found that PS was importing empty "Photos" into the LR catalog, but listed on C: (in the library mod, even though the actual photo files were physically in D:) These null files were not stacked with the originals and were down at the beginning of the film strip.

When I created a new Catalog and put Photos physically on C: the issue went away and LR / PS interop appears to work as designed.

Since the new PSD file ends up in the right drive/folder with multiple drives, I assume LR is passing PS the correct information. Why would the LR catalog entry end up on C?

Brent, it sounds like you're experiencing the problem where Photoshop didn't get completely updated to 10.0.1. What version does Photoshop say your scripting component is?

Rosamund & Justin - can you email me at kevint (at) adobe.com? I would like to walk through a few things with you to see what's happening on your machines.

    Thanks,

Hi! Anita Dennis from Adobe pointed out this link to me: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb404907 which I found yesterday already and with which at least part of the problem has been solved,

Thanks and I hope others are helped with this also!

I had posted this in a separate thread as it is a different issue to the one highlighted at the beginning of this thread. However after having read some of the 350+ posts in this thread, it appears that this has become a catchall for general 'Edit in Photoshop' issues.

So can anyone help me with the following...

When (in LR2.0 and LR2.1) I "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS3" (by right clicking), the selected image correctly opens up in CS3. I can then edit the image but when I close it down and save it does not get re-imported into LR. Instead the edited image is simply saved in the same folder as the original, leaving me to manually synch/reimport into LR. I had been led to believe the image would be auto-reimported on closing/saving in PShop.

It sounds like some others have had this problem, but I couldn't find any suggested solution.

If my PC/config has any bearing, I'm running Vista-64, AMD Phenom, 8GB RAM, PShop CS3 Extended 10.0.1 with scripting support 10.0.1.
