Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

Here is a solution does work on Win XP:
    1.Reboot your computer.
    2.Re-apply the PS 10.0.1 update.
    3.Reboot again.
4.Create a new user account with lower case letters.
5.Make sure, that there is no apostrophe or dot in the full path to the folder you store your pictures,in its subfolders' name and in the name of the image.C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Pictures\Subfolder\Image.
    6.If there's any,delete it.(Rename folder or image)
It was just as simple as that for me.It seems like that PS can't read apostrophes and dots on letters in a file directory.
Now all the "Edit in","Open as" and "Merge to" commands work perfectly, and after edit in PS,the copies are saved next to the original in LR2.

Special thanks to Kevin T. from LR2 Team!

    Hi all,

I can confirm that re-applying the Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 update has solved all my CS3 launch problems with L2/CS3 here on a German WinXP!
Just follow the instructions at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b61fd6
I think it's important to restart Windows before you (re-)install the update. Otherwise it's possible that the update fails at some point...

A Big "Thank You" to the L2-Team! I enjoy your product very much :-)

There's some info from engineering team on this issue in the FAQ http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b61fd6

It might provide some additional guidance not already covered in this thread.

    Hi Paul;

I actually did a rebuild on my PC; formatted the HD, clean install of Vista Ultimate, installed CS3, did the updates, confirmed the updates - and STILL get the "Lightroom could not open Photoshop CS3" when I try to do an "Edit in Photoshop". My fingers are crossed as well...this has to be a bit embarrassing for Adobe after the long beta of LR. With luck, they'll have it figured out soon.

OK, I thought I'd share my latest experience, hoping this may be useful to someone out there, or the Adobe software engineers who are working hard trying to figure a solution for this one! I'm hoping that's the case anyway!
I just re-built my PC from scratch with Vista x64 (instead of XP x64). I installed CS3 (extended) and let the update do its own thing, which took the versions to:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 10.0.1 (10.0.1x20071012 [20071012.r.1644 09:30:00 cutoff; r branch])
    with
    Camera Raw 4.5
    and
    ScriptingSupport 10.0.1

Then I installed LR2 from scratch, and tried the 'Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS3' and for the first time ever on my setup the image opened in PS. Woohoo! I then saved this and now see (for the first time ever) the ghost folder issue that everyone's been talking about. Again, as reported previously, my new folder appears with a lowercase d: drive as opposed to the original with uppercase D:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Adobe will figure a solution for this one soon!

    Cheers,

I confirm to have the same problem here.
I also know a fellow photographer who experiences the same Ghost Folder bug.

Hey guys. I am new to the forums, but i have been having the same problems with exporting to CS3. However, i have a solution that works for what i do so i thought i would share. Whenever i want to edit in Photoshop, it is generally some sort of enhancement that i put in a special folder for weddings, and i don't want a duplicate in Lightroom. I created a custom export "Edit in Photoshop" that all i have to do is point to the directory and have it open in CS3 when done. That works out well for me. Hope this helps.

    Kevin,

I have what seems to be the same "ghost folder" problem on Windows XP. After editing a NEF file with Photoshop CS3 and saving it, a new volume, duplicating an existing one, is created in the Folders panel. LR shows this duplicate volume as having just one folder with just one file--the one I edited. The file is not shown in the original folder.

To recover, I have to synchronize the original folder and delete the "ghost" folder that was newly created. I have to stack the images manually.

Is there anything it would be useful to send you?

    Kevin,

do you still need a small catalog with a ghost folder (problem #2) on MAC/OSX?

Edit in PS/edit as a smart object works until I save the file. The file ends up, where it should be, only LR displays an "empty" thumbnail. However it still shows the proper path to where the file has been saved.

    Regards

    >Me: I'm confused... because the LR2 manual says this:
"After making edits in Photoshop, you will be prompted to save any changes to the photo sent from Lightroom. Photos edited as Smart Objects in Photoshop are not automatically reimported into the Lightroom catalog."

    Ok, now I'm confused too.
I didn't read this sentence in the help file. My mistake.
I thougt the call back to Lightroom would be the same for all four CS3 options.

Is there any difference between Mac and PC?
    Ian's answer implies it.
