Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

I just downloaded the latest Camera Raw 4.5 plugin, and that seemed to fix my problem. I though that Adobe had already installed it, but I though I would try downloading it again. I copied it to the directory the readme file said. When I tried it in LR2, the image opened in Photoshop as a smart object. I hope this will help some of you.

I'm running a PowerMac G5 with Leopard 10.5.4. I tried Betty Reed's idea of temporarily switching the preference to 8 bit, but the images still will not open as smart objects I don't have any problem opening images from LR2 in Photoshop CS3, only as a "Smart Object."

I've got this problem on XP Pro SP3. Currently using LR 2 trial while waiting for full boxed version to be delivered. I upgraded my catalogue from LR v1.x.

It seems to me that LR is failing to put up the dialogue box asking about how you want export the image to CS3. When you do the same thing in LR v1.x it would ask about editing original or copy with LR adjustments etc. I know LR v2 is going to be slightly different because of being able to send the RAW files to CS3 rather than converting to TIFF first, but I'd still expect some sort of dialogue box and/or task progress in the top left corner of the LR window (as when exporting or creating web pages etc).

Anyway, I have submitted a bug report to Adobe. No email confirmation or reply though.

"Without reading painfully through every single post again, am I right in thinking that mention has been made that this problem is only applicable to Macs?"

No, and it's very important to understand that it's not a universal problem on either platform - far from it.

I did have the problem on my XPPro SP2 machine, never on my Mac, and finally solved it by trying Betty Reed's idea of temporarily switching the preference to 8 bit.

Without reading painfully through every single post again, am I right in thinking that mention has been made that this problem is only applicable to Macs?

If that is indeed the case then I would just like to advise that an element of it also applies to me running XP SP3. Images go out of LR into CS3 no problem but always come back into a 'Ghost' drive having the same drive letter as the original external drive in which my images are located.

Well, one of those posts was pretty obvious:

    > Can someone who is having this problem drop me a line at kevint (at) adobe.com? I'd like to have you try a couple things to help me diagnose what's going on.

But, yes, the other three (Melissa, Julie, and Tom) were less obvious.

I'm not trying to be a smart alec, but how is anyone supposed to know who is on the Adobe team?

My comment was directed at the support FAQs and help searches off the main Adobe support pages and that this is not addressed. I see this as a major bug.

Oh, by the way, if I forceably add photoshop.exe as a secondary editor, and then choose it, it works fine. But, as the default it does not work.

Wick, sorry if I misinformed anybody. What I suggested came to me through Adobe early on. I have been in and out - mostly out - at dog shows since Friday morning and have not been able to watch the thread as closely as I would have liked.

What do you recommend at this juncture? Going back to the previous version of Lightroom?

JB: People should keep in mind that using your workaround does create additional files in the catalog if you decide not to save and there is no ability to edit as a smart object, layer multiple images, do panos etc.
