Lightroom Classic 12.1 (Windows 111) Import Module no longer works

After a winter hiatus of several weeks, I have new images to import and process in Lightroom Classic (ver. 12.1 desktop version running on a Windows 11 system).   But the import module in Lightroom no longer "sees" new files to import. Nor does the import module "see" existing files in the catalogue and display them as greyed out images.

Bottom line: I can still see and process existing files in the development module, but I can neither see nor import new ones.

Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:

Quit Lightroom Classic.
macOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".
