Question

Lightroom Classic 15.2 not showing thumbnails after import, only if you do a restart, then you see the thumbnails

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an ongoing issue with Adobe Lightroom Classic, currently on version 15.2. This problem has been happening for the last three updates, not just this latest one.

After importing RAW files, the thumbnails do not appear in the Library module. The folder and total file count display correctly, but the preview area remains blank.

The only workaround that consistently works is fully restarting Lightroom. Once I relaunch the program, all thumbnails appear normally.

System details:

  • Lightroom Classic version: 15.2

  • Computer: Apple M3 Pro

  • Memory: 18GB RAM

  • GPU acceleration: Set to Auto

  • File type: RAW

  • “Generate previews in parallel”: Enabled

  • Storage: [internal SSD or external drive]

This happens every time after import. Restarting fixes it temporarily, but having to do that after every import is not practical.

Has anyone else experienced this over the last few updates?
Is this a known issue with Apple Silicon machines?
Is there a more permanent solution besides restarting the app?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @JulieChristman912 and @JustAnotherPhotoVideoGuy, Welcome to the Lightroom Classic Community forum! To better help you with this issue, we would like a few more details. Can you send your system info, a screen recording of the issue, and a numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate it? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. Thanks! ^CH

I too am experiencing this same problem with my Lightroom. Every time I import I have to restart Lightroom to see the previews. Lightroom is up to date. 15.2

I’ve experienced this as well, and it’s very annoying. I’ve even tried uninstalling/reinstalling Lightroom Classic, and even tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Adobe creative cloud app. The only solution I’ve found is also closing out and re-opening the program.

Adobe, please help us figure this out!

@Niko-Jullouville After the update, I couldn't view the files; everything had turned gray (the previews).

It’s not clear that your symptoms are exactly the same as @alonsoreyes. If the thumbnails in Library Grid view are gray, and they stay gray even after restarting LR, try the steps in this help article:

    Puce: Apple M4 Max
    Mémoire 36 Go
    Accélération: Auto
    fichiers RAW
    Aperçus standards

Avez-vous une idée de ce qui se passe?
    Best regards

Yes I hope they see this forum and let us know what can be a fix, because I thought with the updates they would figure it out, but hey haven't, and I ask few of my fellow photographers and they have the same issue 😥
