Question

Lightroom Classic CC freezes when accessing any drop down meny

In Lightroom, whenever I pull down a drop down menu - for example, by clicking on "File" or by right-clicking on a photo - LrC completely freezes. I can not exit the program. The only solution is to hold on the power button long enough for the computer to restart. When reopening LrC, if I repeat this, the computer will freeze once more and I have to reboot it again.

I am using Lightroom Classic CC on a Dell Inspiron 7306 2-in-1 laptop running Windows 11. Both LrC and Windows have been updated to their latest versions. All the drivers on my computer are also up to date.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling LrC. I do not believe a corrupted preference file or the GPU is responsible for this. Please view these two discussions:

I am pretty sure a faulty driver is at work, as it seems to be the case in the discussions above reporting a similar issue.

Did you get an answer on this? I am experiencing the same exact issue and tried the solutions suggested but no resolution.

Hi,

I also tried the suggested solutions, which did not solve the issue. I gave up and bought a MacBook Pro... I'm pretty sure a faulty driver is responsible for the issue but can't find which. If I hadn't bought a new computer, I would've saved everything important on my computer to an external hard drive and completely wipe the laptop clean. You can try that, there's just no guarantee it works and it's a pretty big hassle.

You may or may not have the same root cause as those other posts.  Initial troubleshooting steps:

1. Disconnect any tablets and smart mice, and connect a dumb cheap mouse (borrow one if necessary).  Does the problem occur?

2. Create a new user account and log into it.  Does the problem occur? (This will rule out a number of causes, including corrupted preferences.)

3. Start your computer in safe mode. Does the problem occur?

I am having the same issues and lightroom is still not working I tried in safe mode as suggested. Should lightroom work in safe mode?
