Before deleating the  metrics.json file, did you:

  1. Go on the web, bring up Adobe.com. Sign in if you are not already signed in.
  2. Select the Privacy tab. Turn off the option Desktop App Usage > Share Information On How I Use Adobe Desktop Apps.
  3. Restart your computer, thus insuring that LrC is not running in background for some reason.

Tried again and managed to get it to work consistently now!

Thank you all so much for your kind help (:

Managed to get it working once after following those steps! However once I closed Lightroom, i'm unable to get it to start again - back to the same crashing issue.

Tried to run through all the suggested steps again but doesn't seem to work anymore.

Thank you so much for checking back.

I have tried the latest suggestion and it managed to open Lightroom for a split second before crashing again. After it crashed, the metrics.json file showed up again which I removed and tried resetting the Lightroom preferences once more but it still didn't work out for me.

I can't find any file named metrics.json on my computer. Has this file been moved or named something else in recent updates??

Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:

Quit Lightroom Classic.
macOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".
