Question

Lightroom Classic repeatedly (10x per sec) pings a Tcpip\...\EnableDhcp item in the registry and hangs on closing

I’ve tried every twist possible. I have lots of details (pasted here) and will attach a diagnostic zip file.

I’m having trouble with Lightroom Classic 15.x upon closing. The LrC window closes but LrC hangs as a very active background process. I’ve done a lot of testing and reinstalling and I’m looking for an under-the-hood solution to the problem. Please! Here is what I have, and the steps taken so far.

System: Windows 11 Pro
LrC 15.1, 15.1.1 and 15.2, (have tested all three versions)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, driver up to date, per Windows Update: 32.0.15.9144
Primary LrC catalog on internal SSD (Drive X:)

Problem: When LrC window closes and hangs as background process, Windows Process Monitor shows hits at a rate of 8-10 per sec to
RegQueryValue on

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\
{6a90529f-eb48-11f0-9d67-806e6f6e6963}\EnableDhcp

Result → "NAME NOT FOUND"

Two Work Arounds – Neither is viable long term:

  • In a new Windows 11 profile named “Test,” I launched and shut down LrC with no hang. Shutdown was clean and complete. Again, not a long-term solution for my system and my workflow.
  • End Task in Windows Task Manager; not practical

What I Have Eliminated:

  • Within Windows Device Manager, enable/disable NVIDIA display adapter:
     → hang problem remains
  • There are no hidden or disabled network adapters
  • Moved existing LrC AppData folders to allow LrC to create new files:
    → hang problem remains
  • Was running LrC 15.1.1 when problem began, upgraded to 15.2, then downgraded to 15.1 → no change
  • Sync On/Sync paused → no change
  • With every significant change I’ve done a cold system reboot

Going Forward:

  • I am told this ID appearing in repeated registry hits is an important clue
    {6a90529f-eb48-11f0-9d67-806e6f6e6963}
I am willing to send you a more complete Process Monitor log if you guide me with some specific how-to steps and what I should/should not filter for.
  • I am a careful person and not afraid to edit the Windows registry.
  • I don’t want to use the Creative Cloud cleaning tool without hearing from someone with perhaps a better quicker solution. Also, I want to know more than what the Adobe support page provides in terms of exactly what the cleaning tool will change or delete on my system. Uninterrupted workflow is important.

Hoping very much this will point to a known fix. I’m on a three-month-old PC, I’ve already had to reinstall Windows and all my apps due to a Win 11 printing bug, and I really don’t want to do any more re-installs if possible.
Thanks.

Sorry, I can’t uploadthe file LrSyncDiagnostic.zip because it is 154MB.

Adobe Lightroom Classic — Background Process Hangs After Close (Versions 15.1, 15.1.1, 15.2)

After closing Lightroom Classic, the application persists as a Background Process in Task Manager indefinitely. Using Sysinternals Process Monitor I found LrC polling the Windows registry for network interface DHCP status approximately 10 times per second — both while running and after apparent close. It never stops, unless I "End Task." (This makes it difficult to open a different catalog.)

The specific registry path being queried is:

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces[GUID]\EnableDhcp

LrC queries this path for every registered network interface, successful or not, with no apparent exit condition. This polling loop appears to prevent clean shutdown.

Has anyone else observed this behavior? Is there a known fix or workaround?

System: Windows 11 Pro 25H2, Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (driver 32.0.15.9144), tested on LrC versions 15.1, 15.1.1, and 15.2.

Thanks for your help. I'll help when I can do so without guessing.

    Hi @FrankMazz

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing these details. Since Lightroom Classic works correctly in a new user account, this behavior appears to be related to a system configuration issue specific to your original user profile.

I recommend repairing the user account permissions for the Lightroom folders to see if that resolves the issue. Please follow the steps outlined here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-basic-troubleshooting-fix-most-issues.html#:~:text=Troubleshoot%20user%20account%20permissions

    Regards,

Thank you. I will look into it after sunrise. Meanwhile, before I go to sleep I want to share this new information just found. Not sure what it means, but it caught me by surprise.

NEW FINDING: taskmgr.exe also hits the exact same Tcpip\EnableDhcp registry key 1/sec while LrC runs. I am told this is a Windows networking stack defect (ghost NIC GUID), not LrC-specific.

Thanks for your help. I'll help when I can do so without guessing.

One other tidbit. I’ve tried to disable GPU Processing in LrC preferences. But upon reboot and relaunch, GPU Processing pops back on to an “Auto” state.

Thanks for your help. I'll help when I can do so without guessing.
