Definitely get the drivers up to date.

I don't believe there's a problem with Radeon HD cards, and FWIW, I'm using a XFX AMD Radeon R9 280 with 3Gb. You're going to need a recent generation card with at least 2Gb of memory such as the AMD R9 2xx series or nvidia’s Geforce 700 or 900.

I believe the gpu shows passed but doesn't work.

I've tried GPUZ while doing some heavy spot healing brush and the activity bar doesn't even move. We (old gamers) had this issue with 2D Clocks, so i opened a movie, to see if the clocks rise (from their idle state) and tried editing on Lightroom while the movie was playing with no success.

On the other hand, zooming 1:1 with no gpu acceleration seems a little faster than LR 5.

Eric Chan has stated, earlier in this thread, taht the GPU is not used for spol healing or b rushing

I send Eric the text file, then I've uninstalled the latest drivers and re-installed the 14.4 on my Radeon HD6950 and GPU is now working in CC

tried the suggestions earlier and worked on Radeon HD6670

step 1. clean up and remove all AMD display software using

http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16748/

step 2. reboot - your windows will start in VGA  mode - dont panic

step 3. install version 14.4 of CCC and it will install the display drivers and AMD control centre software

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous/detail?os=Windows%207%20-%2064&rev=14.4

step 4. reboot.   Load LR-CC and check performance under preferences and it should now recognise the card.

worked for me

It seems the problem is NOT only with AMD cards. I have a GeForce 9600M GT and LR doesn't even recognize it

Hi, I've got the same problem on my HD6870 with 14.9 drivers.

Nevertheless, I'm posting this "me-too" post because I haven't seen the following info posted here. Look at the screenshot I post. System info gives also a GL_MAX_COMBINED_TEXTURE_IMAGE_UNITS (actual = 32, minimum = 48) info on my system. As you can see I'm on LR6, not CC. (In fact I opened a yet another thread about it).

Could this info be useful? (I'll also run the test exe provided some posts before).

ARSPR, it looks like you have an older version of the AMD driver installed (13.251).  The more recent versions are all 14.x.

GPU performance in Lr CC will depend a lot on the control that you are editing, as well as what other settings (image adjustments) you have enabled on the particular image.  At present, the most acceleration will happen when editing non-detail, global controls.  For example, Basic, Tone Curve, HSL, Split Tone, Lens Correction, Post-Crop Vignette, etc.  Many gradient and radial filter operations are also greatly accelerated.

Some other editing operations such as local brush adjustments and the spot tool do not currently take advantage of GPU acceleration.  If you heavily use these tools, then you may find that their performance (with the GPU feature checked) is on par with Lr 5 performance, or possibly slower due to additional overhead when using the GPU path.

I just want to wrap things up here as to what solved the issue for me.

AMD drivers for the HD 5xxx DO NOT appear to be the latest driver released for more recent boards.

Since i started troubleshooting, my driver version DID NOT CHANGE.

I had a "cleanup" issue. I uninstalled everything from AMD e reinstalled everything back in and it did the trick. It is Important to notice that the latest driver version for the HD 5xxx series is THE ONE THAT APPEARS TO BE WORKING FOR MOST PEOPLE (Revision number 14.4 from March, 25, 2014). This is the latest driver for the HD 5xxx but not the latest for other boards.

So, people using the REAL latest drivers may have to do two things:

1. Downgrade to 14.4 and if that doesn´t work...

2. Remove everything from AMD and reinstall the 14.4 driver

That might fix the GPU support

On the performance side:

- Improvements when using the sliders. The effects on the picture are basically real-time

- Improvements when using radial and graduated filters

- No difference for the spot healing tool. It remais very slow.

- Performance is degraded when using local adjustment brushes (much smoother when the GPU support is disabled)

That´s what i got so far. Hope i´ve helped some of you here

Could you provide instructions, or a link, to how to uninstall everything from AMD and reinstall everything back?

No difference for the spot healing tool. It remais very slow.

Very interesting, I was wondering about this. I would be interested in hearing from others if the speed problem remains for spot healing. I would also be interesting in hearing if this also applies to brushing, or not.

You can uninstall AMD drivers and software using Windows Add/Remove Programs. The wizard will guide you through. I myself select the "Express uninstall all AMD software"...or something like that...

Brushing, at least for me, is slower with GPU support enable.

I´m glad some of you got it working. The performance gains are "mixed", at least in my testing.

I´ve seen a good improvement when using the sliders and applying graduated filters.

No improvement or degradation when using the healing brush, it´s the same with GPU support turned on or off.

There was a noticeable performance loss when using brushes and GPU enabled. It´s much smoother with it turned off.

Looks like there we´re going to have to make some tradeoffs...

fviero‌ I think the key is to NOT install the latest driver. It seem that stephenf3025828‌ updated the one before the latest and it worked. I haven't tested this theory as yet but would do when I get home. Fingers crossed.

No no, the version 14.4 is one year old, the last release version was 14.12. The newest beta is 15.4.

I have tested yesterday the beta 15.4 with reinstall before. Now, the gpu acceleration is working in Photoshop but nevertheless not in Lightroom. I'll testing the 14.4 in the evening.

Just finished removing and reinstalling everything AMD. It fixed GPU support in Lr CC for me.

1. Removed all amd drivers and applications using Add/Remove Programs

2. Reboot

3. Downloaded latest drivers for my Radeon HD 5xxx series

4. Installed the full suite (all options checked)

5. Reboot

7. Voila

Hi everyone,

Earlier, I posted a software utility to help gather some GPU-related information (by means of a text log file). Thanks to many of you who downloaded, ran the utility, and provided the log information to me by email. I got some very helpful information, but unfortunately I still have not gotten to the bottom of it.

(In case you're curious, we have many of the same cards internally at Adobe and have tested with them, also using the latest drivers available from the AMD site, but in our test systems the GPU support in ACR 9 and Lr CC is working correctly.)

So, I'm back with a request for some more information. I have made an update to my software utility which will run further ACR/Lr-specific GPU diagnostics to help me understand better what is causing the issue. If you'd like to participate, please keep reading ...

Instructions (very similar to earlier):

1. The utility software is named "acr_gpu_test2". You can download it (a 39 MB zip file) here:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35081204/acr_gpu_test2.exe.zip

2. Unzip the file. Inside is an executable file named "acr_gpu_test2.exe".

3. Double-click acr_gpu_test2.exe. A window should pop up momentarily, then go away.

4. You should now have a new file named "log.txt" in the same folder as acr_gpu_test2.exe. Please email that log.txt file to me. You can use my personal email address, which is madmanchan@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Eric Chan

Just to report, a full cleanup of the AMD drivers (cleanup utility, multiple restarts et al) and a fresh reinstallation of the 14.12 drivers hasn't resolved the issue for me.

Mine's failed too, HD6950 exceeds the minimum specs and runs fine in PS. I've tried the latest official driver as well as the 15.4 beta.
