P: Assisted Culling popup locks application

When I try to import picture files, I get a popup for assisted culling that locks the application. I need to go to task manager to shut down the application.  

 

I turned off assisted culling under catalog settings, but this does not correct the issue.

 

Is anybody else experiencing this issue.

 

I cannot import new files!

    Assisted Culling continuously crashes while analyzing a small number (218) of pictures.  

    Steps:

     

    Start Lr, select Assisted Culling from Library drop down menu. 

    Culling started even before options were chosen, so select Eyes Open, exposure Issues and let it run.  Then Crash. 

    Restart Lr, and it immediately restarts Assisted Culling using the folder from the FIRST START of Lr.  Not the folder I switched to before started culling. 

    Switch to proper folder and Assisted culling is running in proper folder again. 

    Progress bar creeps up and crash again.  restart Lr again, change folder again, and crash time after time. 

    After a number of crashes and restarts, assisted culling has finally completed the folder, and no crash.

    I’m used to being able to stop running processes by clicking on the x in progress bar, but no x available for assisted culling.

    exatamente como foi descrito anteriormente. Ao abrir e dar o comando para fazer a leitura/organizaçao das imagens, começa e fecha o programa repentinamente. Não fica nem cinco minutos aberto (e acabou de acontecer de novo).

    @KAbadie Do you’ve restart Lightroom after changing the assisted culling to off? 

     

    I’m see several threads to same or a similar issues with Assisted Culling in LrC 15.5

    You have also buldin a CPU with an internal graphic processor. This internal GPU can sometimes caused several issues. Try to disable the processor internal graphic card.

    If you don’t do it, try to reset the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

    It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html

     

    If this doesn't help, check if your system is up-to-date. Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver? Please make also sure that you have installed the Studio version and not the Game Ready version of your NVidia driver.

    If this already doesn’t help I would try to reinstall Lightroom.

    Hi,

     

    I had already done these things with the exception of checking my NVidia driver, which was set to studio. I tried the optimising tool in the Nvidia dashboard, but again, no change. I have uninstalled and reinstalled already. At this point, all it is doing is starting the cull, and about 10 images in it completely shuts down LRC. In the last batch i tried to cull, there was only 95 images, not a big batch at all.

    the lightroom Classic after installing newly updated version 15.5 keeps shutting down in the middle of assisted culling. the issue persists even after system restart and app restart. Windows 11 Pro, processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz

    Do you get an error message or an crash report? If yes, please post the message word-by-word or send the crash report to Adobe.

    Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Lightroom menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

    Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve engaged on an internet forum, I forgot there always has to be that one angry-at-life-so-I-must-make-everyone-elses-difficult person, who doesn’t actually read posts, over-generalizes what was said and jumps all over everyone at the slightest perception of anyone breaking their personal I-am-forum-god rules. 

    What I said was "Almost the same thing is happening to me." and "I get the crash within 1 minute (no error message)", but you didn't care to read that and you've been rude, so I won't engage with you any further.

    I just wanted to let Eager_ease5E0A know that they weren't alone and that others are experiencing the same issue. I am also incredibly busy, still working on photos from the latest musical, but photography is a hobby for me - I am a software dev by day. So in case anyone from Adobe is interested, here's some more info:

    - This is a crash to desktop, no error messages or crash report on the next launch.
    - It has only occurred since upgrading to v15.5.
    - It only occurs for me when I open the "Assisted Culling" section on the sidebar, in a folder or collection with photos that haven't been culled yet. The CTD happens in ~30-60 seconds.
    - The crash does not occur when I run "Assisted Culling" as a background task, by enabling it from the top left menu above "Address Lookup".
    - Since the original crashes I experienced trying to run Assisted Culling on only the photos from my latest musical (by opening the sidebar section), I have let the background task run long enough that all of the latest photos have been culled. I can open the sidebar section now without triggering the culling task or any crashes. 
    - I still have over 200k photos to cull according to the background task (I have ~545k total in this catalog).

    Almost the same thing is happening to me. The only difference for me is that I get the crash within 1 minute (no error message) only when I run it from the sidebar, by opening the Assisted Culling section. When I run it from the background tasks area under my name, it runs without crashing for hours and I have a backlog of over 200k photos to analyze still.
