P: Error Message: AI Edits Storage Error

I’m getting the “AI Edits Storage Error” in Lightroom Classic, and I’ve already followed all the steps listed on Adobe’s help page, but the issue is still happening.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Confirmed there is enough free disk space

  • Restarted Lightroom and my Mac

  • Ensured only one instance of Lightroom is open

  • Gave Lightroom Classic Full Disk Access and Files & Folders permissions in macOS

  • Verified my user account has Read & Write permissions

  • Checked that the catalog and .lrcat-data folder are accessible

  • Not using any cleanup tools or cloud sync on the catalog while Lightroom is open

Despite all this, the error continues to appear and AI edits fail to save properly.

When you receive this error, contacting support is your best course of action. The failure you are seeing is not new to version 15.1, but it formerly had no dialog to display when it occurred. The Error Message was added in LrC version 15.1 to guide you toward a workable solution.

If you encounter this new dialog, you should:

    1.  Review this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/ai-edits-storage-error.html to make sure you are not affected by the items listed there.
    2. Contact Adobe Support, as they have an lrcat-data recovery tool that can fix your corrupt file.

You would do this if you don't want to take the extreme option of removing your lrcat-data file and rebuilding it from scratch, as has been mentioned in this thread. This method works, but it can result in unexpected results when AI data has been recalculated.

Please note that the understood causes of corruption in this file are external. It is essential to review this KB document to ensure you don't have future corruption.

    Thank you for your patience.

To contact Adobe Customer Care, as instructed in the error message, go to https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/what-contact-options.html. Scroll to the bottom and click on the “Start Now” live chat link in the lower right of this page. Typing “Agent” into the chat text field will bypass the initial chatbot.

So describe your problem in detail, please. The problem that the link describes does not depend on updating Lightroom or your OS. It can happen anytime.

Getting this message upon opening one specific catalog that is stored on an external drive. (see attachment)

The update requests seems to apply to both masks and Denoise.

Sometimes I see the little yellow/orange icon that denoting that I need to update. This happens without me closing the catalog. I get this as I work though editing images.

I have read this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/ai-edits-storage-error.html but it does not seem to answer my problem. The issue just started yesterday but I have not updated either LR or the OS recently.

    Hi @Richard37606825byr7

Thanks for sharing the details and what you’ve already tried. When Lightroom Classic shows an AI edits storage issue at launch, it usually means the local cache used for AI features isn’t accessible or cannot be validated. A few things to check that often help in this situation:

    • Make sure the AI edits storage location is on a local drive (not a network, external, or synced folder) and that you have full read/write permissions to that folder.
    • If the suggested location didn’t work, try choosing a completely new empty folder on your internal drive and restarting Lightroom Classic after setting it.
    • Confirm there’s sufficient free disk space on the drive where the AI edits storage is set.
    • If you’re using any system-level protection (for example, controlled folder access or aggressive antivirus rules), temporarily allow Lightroom Classic to access the selected folder.

If the message still appears after this, it would help if you could share System info from Lightroom Classic’s Help menu (Help > System Info > copy-paste the full report here).

    Looking forward to your response!

Thanks for the response.  I did check permissions, space etc. but it made no difference.  I did realize the catalogue was in a OneDrive synchronised directory and moved to a local only directory, but still got the error.  I’ve now reverted to an earlier backup which did work and re-synched the latest loaded photos.  Just going to have to redo the lost edits!

Hi, I got the "AI edits Storage Issue" message when I started LRC today and following the suggested steps (AI Edits storage error) did not resolve the problem. In addition, I found that the last import and edits I had done had disappeared from the Catalogue, even though Collections I created after this are still there. I've tried reverting to last backup of the catalogue but had the same errors. I also can't back up the catalogue anymore when I exit. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
I have the same problem: I can open the catalogs, but I never know whether the AI processing is actually working. Is there a definitive fix for this error?
And ultimately, these catalogs can no longer be saved.

Can anyone here offer some assistance? I haven't been able to find any help regarding this on Adobe Support.
