P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Some of the poor results you are seeing could be due to your GPU. If you are on Windows, Lightroom needs far more than the minimum GPU recommended by Adobe. It needs a minimum of 8GB and should be the latest NVIDIA hardware archecture. If on a MacBook, you want at least a M1 Max with at least 32 GB of RAM.

I get mostly very good results (May 2026) but I carefully remove only one area at a time. If I attempt to remove a person and a car then the results are strange. It is using generative AI to fill in the erased area, attempting to match the area around the removed object. Even removing 2 similar objects, such as light poles, doesn’t work because each light pole has a different area around it.

I never get ghosts though I did with other products. Are you processing locally with a reasonably powerful GPU enabled?

I’m not an Adobe apologist, I have no shortage of serious complaints about Lightroom and how they support it but this feature works better than any competing products that I’ve tried. I’ve read that the Photoshop remove works better but it uses the same underlying engine even though that doesn’t mean that it isn’t superior.

LR Classic 15.3

Windows 11 pro

Generative AI, when trying to generate the bottom of an arched entrance/doorway always produces an inverted arch at the bottom insted of a normal horizontal passageway. It appears to be systematic and no variation you try, you never get anything else but an inverted arch at the bottom.

LR 15.3 does a good job with the low-resolution version you attached here. Please attach a full-resolution version so we can see if this is something specific to your installation or a more general issue:

Here is the full size photo in JPEG (25 mpixels). The original in a Nikon Raw (too big too upload). When I apply the AI remove on the RAW, it produces the results that I have shown above or variants thereof. When I reimport the JPEG, I obtain the same results as you had. Go figure.

This occurs almost all the time on this type of repair with an arched doorway.

I am still getting ghosting after removing objects.  My Lightroom is fully up to date and I have tried the updating masks button, still see the ghosting of the object I removed.

@Cetronix I have tried the updating masks button, still see the ghosting of the object I removed.

1. Please post a full-resolution screenshot of the entire LR window in Develop showing the problem.

2. Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info, click the Copy button in the upper right corner, and paste into your reply here, so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

@ANASTASIS Generate remove does not work at all today.

It’s currently working on my LRC 15.3 Mac and Windows. Please provide more detail about what’s not working. If you see an error message, please post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic).

I’ve a case where I’m using generative remove, the result looks acceptable when in Develop module but when I click back to Library the edges of the repair are incorrect.

I’ve already checked that there are no outstanding AI edit status items that need updating.

The attachments show

  • the before/after (so you can see what I’m removing)
  • then the Develop module after the fix (showing reasonable result)
  • then the Library module after the fix (showing the edges being weird)
  • then the same image as synchronised to Lr mobile (it’s the same as the Library module view)

Useful to know: Photoshop cannot detect the blurred washing lines but will remove them perfectly using the Remove Tool.

I would appreciate if the function Generative AI worked even after the image is transformed, e.g., this image was vertically transformed and I cannot generate any content in the blank corners because the program does not consider this as “part of the image”. It only highlights the area of the original photo. Otherwise, I consider the tool to be very helpful. Best Regards, Petr.
