P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

LR:

Windows 11 home

OS Build 26200.7019

Having an issue on a specific image trying to remove a stick.

I've rebooted windows and tried doing the removal again. Again it only shows black.
I tried another image and remove works fine. So far just this specific image on multiple tries.

I'll add replies if I encounter this again.

Of course, the problem with that photo doesn't occur on my Macbook Pro / LR 15.0 / Mac OS 15.7.1 or my ASUS mini-PC LR 15.0 / Windows 11. I tried with and without Detect Objects checked and immediately after restarting LR.

A few others have reported similar intermittent symptoms, but unless Adobe can reproduce this reliably, they're unlikely to pay attention (unless many more people report it).

To help narrow down possible causes, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and attach or  copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

When I've been doing generative remove, it will leave the outline of the silhoutte of a person that doesn't blend with the image(like a ghost almost.) If I try to do another generative remove or a heal or remove, the same outlined silhouette remains.

It sounds like you've applied Remove on top of an AI mask (e.g. Sky). Click the yellow AI Edit Status button and then Update:

LRC Build [202510171722-44f87028]

AM5 9950x 64gb DDR5 6000mhz CL26 4070ti-s

Win11 Home 25H2 OS build 26200.7019

Remove tool has occasionally started filling space with solid black instead of the generated image??

First time seemed like a fluke. Got through about 5 images and then it happened again. If I hit regenerate it stays black but if I erase or add to the defined area to generate it corrects it's self.

There's been another report about that recently:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-generative-remove-feedback-lr-classic-amp-lr-eco/m-p/15568689#M416660

If the problem were widespread, we would have seen many reports about it by now. So it may be restricted to a small subset of photos or something specific to particular installations.

Try updating your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site, rather than relying on Windows Update or a manufacturer's update utility:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let us see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

It only happened like 3-4 times in an hour. I haven't used the remove tool since (it's not something I use that much). But the Nvidia GPU drivers were up to date. If it happens again I'll report back.

I'm not sure if this is just my experience, but since updating Lightroom, the generative removal AI tool has really decreased in intuition for certain removals/replacements (despite one improvement that I've noticed with the borders). Has anyone else noticed this? I basically can't remove some things that used to be relatively simple because of it.

I understand that this is not a bug, but I wasn't sure where to bring it up.

Hi,

Since the recent update to Generative Remove, it seems to affect areas outside of the brushed selection. It used to stay perfectly within the brushed area, but now it changes surrounding parts of the image too — which really disrupts the workflow. I loved how precise it was before, but now it’s much harder to get clean results.

This started in LR 14.5 (August) and has continued through LR 15.0. Many have complained about the problem, and Adobe has acknowledged it as a bug:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-gen-remove-now-changes-elements-outside-the-painted-mask/idi-p/15457946/

where Adobe employee Sameer K wrote, "The team has identified the issue, but the fix wasn't included in the Lightroom Classic v15 release. It'll arrive soon, as this issue goes beyond Lightroom Classic and also requires broader fixes in Camera Raw."

I have encountered an error when trying to use generative AI to remove a white loop in one of my photographs. Rather than generating a fill the selected area just goes black. Whether I use the tool before or after editing it diesn't make a difference. I tried restarting LR and the problem persisted. It is only this photograph - others are fine.

Using your screenshot, that problem doesn't occur in m LR 15.0 / Mac OS 15.7.1 / Macbook Pro M2 Max.

1. Which of the options Use Generative AI and Detect Objects have you selected?

2. If the forum won't let you attach the file here, upload it to Wetransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive or similar free service and post the sharing link here. We can see if the issue is specific to your computer or occurs on other installations. Adobe is much more likely to pay attention if they can easily reproduce the problem.

No, it doesn't.

I updated Lightroom, now it use the new base so I can't roll back to the working version, and the generative removal tools still broken. It still disrespect selection boundary, especially for small selected area, running the objected I'm working with. This is a disaster!

@Ilham_Zovanka8747: "Generative Remove Failed. Unfortunately, this feature is not available in your region at this time."

According to this Help article:

https://helpx.adobe.com/firefly/web/get-started/learn-the-basics/adobe-firefly-faq.html#react-spectrum-4

"Adobe Firefly isn't available in Russia, Belarus, and China. In addition, Adobe services and products cannot be used in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, and the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics."
