P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

I've noticed only recently that the generative remove is leaving little spots behind.  Just one, it almost reminds me of a mark on film but these are digital files with nothing similar in the frame.

I would love to see various gradient tools with generative remove. I regular am removing telephone lines from engagement sessions and it can be time consuming. This would make it that much easier.

I'm not sure why, instead of removing the person next to this girl, it put a new person there lol..And all generated renditions keep repeating the same mistake.

@OraChaya: "Instead of removing the person next to this girl, it put a new person there".

That usually happens when you've left a small bit of the object unselected or haven't selected all of its shadow. Make sure you've selected all parts of the person's pants at the bottom and increase the selection around his shoulder.

Do Help > System Info -- which version number of LR are you running? The behavior of Generative Remove changed recently.

With your screenshot, I was able to remove the person.  If you're still stuck, attach here a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unedited original, and we can probably get it working.

Everytime I use Generative AI I am constantly impressed. It's saved me loads of times and make me look quite good sometimes! Congrats Adobe.

Why is it that since my Lr updated about a month or two ago, the generative fill is including stuff outside of the circled area?

For example, I just tried removing a piece of hair on a girls face near her mouth. I selected just the hair and generative fill decided to also 'fix' the mouth near it, including her teeth and lip - neither of which were selected. It disfigured her whole mouth when the mouth was not even selected. My Ps also does this and has now for the last year, which is why I no longer use the generative fill in Ps, but now my Lr is doing it too. So frustrating!

With respect to changing elements outside of the selected area, a fair number of people have complained about this change introduced in LR 14.5, and Adobe has acknowledged the issue and said they are investigating:

Unfortunately, they rarely indicate ahead of time if/when they will address an issue.

Easy solution is to revert to version 14.4. Do an Uninstall of 14.5 first then the older version. All done easily on Creative Cloud.

Used removal tool/ generative ai tool to remove people from the background of a subject, based on the result it gave and the usability of the tool itself, I would like to suggest few things which can make the tool more popular.

Right now I find Adobe Photoshop Beta generative ai more reliable to remove the background and add any object in the picture. If you can use that plugin here in LRC this will rock the productivity. The problem of switiching between tools is cumbersome for a new user like me. Make it easy so people like me will enjoy using the tool, and make it popular.

Occhio alle linee dell'orizzonte: se c'è un soggetto che la "interrompe" l'IA non riesce a calcolarne la continuità

I have noticed a positive change in the use of the AI remove tool. As mention before, I photograph acrobats and athletes and often AI remove would fail to work citing 'guidelines'. It was likely not good at seeing the difference between a gymanst in a leotard and, ... lets call it 'something else'.
I noticed a great improvement in that regard! It now lets me edit my photos and it does a great job adding fabric or fixing fabrics or blemishes. This a very welcome improvement and saves me a lot of time! Thank you!

I installed the latest update (October 2025) and now Generative AI isn't working.

We all agree. Uninstall version 14.5 using Creative Cloud and reinstall 14.4

Just give us the old healing brush or clone tool. NOBODY WANTS AI. GET USED TO IT.
