P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Ich versuche auf dem Rücken eines Models störende Falten zu entfernen, es verstoße gegen Eure Richtlinien!!! Was für ein Schwachsinn ist das???

@Hakan Shutter Pirate: "I'm trying to remove annoying wrinkles from a model's back, and it's against your guidelines!!!"

To see the "guidelines" (rules), click the miniscule "?" icon in the upper-right corner of the Remove panel and then click Generative AI User Guidelines.

Adobe's AI is a repressed Victorian and often faints at the slightest hint of skin or small children. In geek speak, it has a high false-positive rate for adult and child p o r n (not allowed to type that in the forum), making it unsuitable for many kinds of innocuous professional use.

In the AI generative remove allow a sample source image - much like the healing burush, but more intelligent in using the source as a model for removing the distractions

The programmers have done a great job in making our life simple and better in editing photographs for more that 35 years. Sometimes we face new challenges with new improvements like our programmers do, as expected. The removal by AI has added a significant progress in making our task simple, quick and almost accurate. Two simple suggestions that may help us do a better job. Why sometimes AI leaves generative human characters instead of complete removal? Make us understand it. The other request is to put some innovative presets in LRC.  Thanks again for all your hard work.

@MyriamNavarro: "The generative AI feature in Lightroom Classic has been very frustrating lately. Instead of erasing the objects I select, it generates random things that have nothing to do with the image."

@MasterKM: "Why sometimes AI leaves generative human characters instead of complete removal?"

1. Uncheck Detect Objects before brushing a selection -- it doesn't work well, especially with skinny objects and along the edges of photos.

2. See this short article for how to remove objects more reliably:

Most complaints about Remove are addressed in the article. But if it doesn't help, please attach a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unmodified original photo (not a screenshot). With nearly every one of the many dozen problem photos posted here, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

Sometimes I wish you'd just leave stuff alone or proof it out better before releasing it. Last week my Removal tool worked beautifully, today, after the update, it doesn't remove what I want it to remove, it replaces it with some other random object and then I have to remove the random object to get it to look how I want. I want my old version back.

You can have your old version back.  Open the Creative Cloud Desktop app, click Apps, click the three dots next to Lightroom Classic, click Other versions and install any of the previous versions you want from the list.

Generative Remove does nothing. You might want to take a serious look at inPixio Photo Studio. Their Remove Tool actually works!

LR's Generative Remove works very well, once you spend just a couple minutes learning how to use it. See this short article for how to remove objects more reliably:

I love that it's called generative remove but all it seems to do is add random stuff. Just tried removing some people from the background of a first dance in the desert and it hadded and white taxi, the back half of a motorcycle, and more people...Love that I have to use credits for crap results.

Most likely, you didn't select the shadows cast by those objects, so the AI generated something that would match the shadows. For example, when I select just the white car but not all of its shadow, it generates another object:

But when I select the shadow too, it does a quick and good job of removing the car:

a me da un errore e non posso usarla.

si è verificato un errore e non è possibile completare la tua richiesta al momento . riprova piu tardi

@vincenzo_9135,

LR's English translation of that error is:

"$$$/Clio/StatusCode/HTTP/Forbidden=We've encountered an issue and can't complete your request at this time. Please try again later."

This error message indicates Remove's network request was blocked for some reason. Sometimes firewalls and anti-virus/security services incorrectly block some network requests from LR. Try these troubleshooting steps:

- Temporarily disable all the firewall/anti-virus/security services on your computer. If that solves the problem, then add a specific exclusion for LR to the services rules.

- Connect to another network, preferably one serviced by a different ISP. E.g. a Wifi connection of a neighbor, a coffee shop, work, or your phone's hotspot. Sometimes the routers in these networks block LR's requests, especially in authoritarian countries like China.

To help others, please let us know which of these work and which don't.
