P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Currently getting a black box when performing Generative Remove. Just tried to remove a stray hair and this is what I got. Tried a few different times and it kept happening.. May need to update.

@gulottaimagery: "getting a black box when performing Generative Remove."

Do the menu command Help > System Info. If you're not on version 14.5.1 (the latest), then do Help > Updates.

If that doesn't help, then update your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site, rather than relying on Windows Update or a manufacturer's update utility:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let us see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

It would be great if this command could type commands like Photoshop.

Generative remove is leaving the area way too light and reflective

Your screenshot suggests you've applied Remove on top of an AI mask, e.g. Background.  Look in the Develop tool bar -- is the AI Edit Status button yellow? If so, click it and you'll see:

Click Update to recompute the Background mask so the removed area matches the background.

Thank You!  Will try this on my next edits!

LRC ver 14.5.1 Windows 11

At present the AI Remove tool is unusable for half of what I usually use it for. I use LR daily, and so do other editors I work with and we have all been dipleased with the latest updates to the AI Remove tool. It causes a number of issues between us and now takes us longer to edit. I frequently use it to remove stray hairs and frizzy hair. Lately when I make a selection, the tool reaches beyond my selection and replaces the friz I am trying to remove with different, chuncky looking friz, often full of weird looking pixelated discolored artifacts. There are other issues too with the regular remove tool just leaving burry blobs where it removes things, but I digress. What was once a quick task for me now takes way too long. Please roll back whateve you have done untill you can acctually improve it.

I can only agree with many of the comments here—unlike earlier versions, generative removal has become practically useless for my needs.

The main problem is that not only the marked areas are altered, but also large surrounding areas—often to the point of being “destroyed.” Everything just gets messed up. I’m attaching an example.

Sorry, Adobe, but this is simply unacceptable!

This tool is great if the removal is simple my issue is more complex to remove a person withe a lot of different textures surrounding. After removal it left the area's texture unmatched and pixelated. It would have saved time and headached doing it the old way in Photoshop instead of lightroom. Please work on this it would make sense to do some removal in a photo program. Anyone else have this issue?

The generative remove tool edits beyond my selected area and wont stay limited to what I want to change. It assumes too much with it's reache and doesn't get it right no matter how many times I click Generate. This seems to be the case after recent updates, was better before. *Side note, I wish generative remove was it's own button and not a check box below ther regulare remove button.

Hello! I have been using the Generative AI tool for quite some time now. Unfortunately it has been a geat dissapointment, as it doesn't remove the selected area. Either I select all the area I want to be removed, either when I select a part of the area, it just doesn't do anything. Even when I check all 3 available options, the area is not being replaced!

Another result is to remove just a tiny bit from the selected area. This results to multiple actions of trying to remove the area. So basically, this tool needs to be fixed/improved!

Tengo estos problemas con Eliminacion generativa, quiero eliminar un ventilador y todas las opciones que me da son manchas, blancas o negras, pero nunca genera el relleno.

@Maximiliano_Favilla1975: "I want to eliminate a fan, and all it gives me are spots, white or black, but it never generates the fill."

With your screenshot, Generative AI Remove did a pretty good job when I selected the shadows below the fan as well:

Please attach here a full-resolution JPEG exported from the original, unedited photo, to verify that the same selection works well on the full photo.
