P: Improved Fuji X-Trans Support?

Is Fuji X-Trans support being worked on?I appreciate that the support is better now than it was, but the reality is that Lightroom is still a long way behind other RAW developers, all of which are less well funded and with smaller teams working on the software.Lightroom has been the leader in RAW processing an image cataloging as far back as I can recall; but with the Fuji X-Trans files many people I know are leaving Adobe Lightroom for one of the many other developers, all of which are producing far better results than Adobe Lightroom.Ones I have personally tested are as follows: Iridient DeveloperPhoto NinjaLightZoneCapture OneApertureSilkyPixRaw TherapeeIridient is very good, and this is a piece of software made by a single man.My question is, if he can get it right, why can't Adobe? They have been leaders in innovation for many years but it seems in some areas now they are falling behind - I have never seen so many people leave a major developer for smaller independent ones, but to Fuji users (both enthusiasts and professionals) it's a pretty simple decision when you compare results. So all I'd like to know is if my patience sticking with Lightroom is justified, and whether a solution is being worked on - or will always be worked on. Or is it a case that the users wanting such a change are not enough to support such work.

Hi Everyone,

We are happy to announce the release of Lightroom Classic CC 8.2. With this release, we’ve introduced a new feature called Enhanced Details.

Photographers using cameras featuring X-Trans sensors should see an improved rendering of their Fuji raw files.

To learn more about how this new feature works check out the blog post:  https://theblog.adobe.com/enhance-details/

Cheers,
Carissa

Fuji X Trans cameras are going to be more and more popular. I am also planning to switch from Nikon to Fuji.
It should be no problem for Adobe to support R-L convolution sharpening properly to support X trans files.
The gap between CaptureOne and Lightroom sharpening is very big. Adobe, take this chance for Lightroom 6!

Same problem. Been using Adobe Products since PS v2.5 and LR 1.0. Great tools. Unfortunately, switching from Canon to Fuji has left me in the position of needing to adopt a different software solution for RAW conversion and DAM. Capture One Pro 8, here I come.

Well I've loaded the same RAF file from my X-T1 to Lightroom and Iridient and switched off all sharpening and noise reduction (set them to zero). So everybody can see the difference. On the left is ID and on the right is LR. The picture from LR is not so crisp and looks rough.

Hi,

Another voice to add to the list hoping that Adobe can improve the rendering of fine details in XTrans files. There is no doubt that the Adobe demosaciaing algorithms are not doing as good a job of extracting fine detail as most of the other RAW converters out there.

A sample RAF file here if anyone wants to look at it. The trees on the hill in the middle make a good test for evaluating the detail rendering.

Same here.

After some testing I've switched to Capture One Pro.
I didn't align the rendering but you can see an example on one of my own pictures below :

So, I am back for a finally comment:

I got an answer from an Adobe guy. He told me that this is a known issue with the raw converter (no news to us) and that they are working with "high Pressure" on it.

bla bla.

I had the chance to talk to a manager of fujifilm on photokina.

He told me, that fujifilm is providing all the information to adobe that they need to improve raw converting, but adobe makes nothing out of it.

Maybe they wait for the next version of lightroom, to make more money. But that is just a guess.

Fact is, adobe has all they need, but they are making nothing out of it. So i am out to. I go on work with Apples Aperture as long as i could and i wait for the new photos app for mac. this one will be free and uses the best raw converter so far, the apple one.

Capture one is ok, but the image quality is not as good as apple and the workflow is very different and not as good as with aperture.

i will quit using adobe products. the monthly plans and the poor image quality with x-trans sensors make that decision easy to me.

bye!

I'm out. $2500 worth of Fuji X-T1 and lens and I can't process the RAW files. Time to move to Capture One Pro.

I will get in Touch with you, when i have more news. I will use Apples Aperture as Long as i can, here i have a Stunning Image quality. But i like to have a plan B. So i am pushing adobe, improving that mess with lightroom

When shifting to X-T1 I start using Iridient Developer and stop using LR. If Adobe can't manage and organize the processing of X-Trans censor's images at the same quality as ordinary censors, I also quit LR and all my colleagues will do the same.
