There is no longer any on-line activation for Lr 6. To do the move, you will need to follow these instructions https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ and then to install Lr 6 you will need to use the offline activation method https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M580921

There is still online activation required. I’ve been trying to do it for weeks. The link to the offline activation that you offer here simply goes to a page where you can choose to install any of the new Adobe products.
Online activation is required but broken. Offline activation doesn’t seem to exist.

This is still an ongoing problem. I have reinstalled Lightroom 6 and validated it with my serials. When I launch Lightroom a window pops up asking me to sign in. I click that and a screen appears with a QR code and a link. I copy the link into a browser, enter my adobe ID, am told I will get a code through email.
I get the code, insert it into the box and then another sign in page appears, with a large blank box and a spinning icon. That icon just spins. If I eventually get tired of waiting and close the box, I have to do the exact same thing every single time I start Lightroom.
I have never had a link that says something like “Having trouble connecting to the internet”.
There is a link to a chatbot on the page with the spinning disc, but it won’t speak to me unless I sign in. I can’t sign in because of the spinning disc in the box never completing it’s task.
I have read every instruction that's been given so far, followed endless links most of which don’t work. Done all the right things and still I am sitting here with a spinning disc that never stops.
Can someone tell Adobe to fix this please?

this is exactly what is happening with me.  so much for paying full price for a ‘perpetual’ license.

I may have this solved.
Download and install the Creative Cloud Desktop App.
Sign in to it with your adobe ID, then sign out of it and shut down every part of the creative cloud using task manager. I had to shut down 11 processes.
Disconnect from the internet, launch LR6 and click on having trouble connecting to the internet.
Go to adobe.com/go/getactivated on your phone, and input the code you got, and the last serial number you had for LR6. Then go.
I actually got tired of typing in my phone so I re-enabled the internet and completed everything as normal on my desktop.
I got a confirmation that I was activated so I closed everything, started Lightroom and the hated sign in screen is finally gone.
I then uninstalled the creative cloud app using adobe's own "Uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop app" utility that you have to download from their site.
reboot...all done.

Hi, @jacobf18228043, I’m not sure when you purshased Lightroom 6, but it was released in April 21, 2015. That’s sixteen years ago. If you just bought a new computer, I feel comfortable in saying that just about all sofware made in 2015, could not run on today’s “just made” computers. If you were able to get a brand new computer that was made in 2015, I think you probably could successfully install Lightroom 6. But, processors have had major upgrades, the operating systems have had major changes, and even Lightroom 6 had 14 updates after it was released before it was replaced by Lightroom 7.

Meanwhile, Adobe does have a policy of EOF, End of Life. This basically states that any software will receive full support until the 3rd full release after the one you buy. So, if you have LR 6, when LR 9 is released, support for LR 6 ceases. You can read more about this here: https://helpx.adobe.com/support/programs/adobe-support-policies-supported-product-versions.html

Meanwhile, I think to get the full benefit of a 2026 computer, you’ll probably enjoy a 2026 version of Lightroom (now Lightroom Classic). There are various options available, you can see them here: https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography/compare-plans.html

Good luck!

Not true, I have very many programs I’ve had for 25 years and they still work fine. I’m certainly not asking for support, I’m just asking to be able to login to the program I bought so I can continue using it.

I recently purchased a new computer and successfully installed my licensed standalone version of Adobe Lightroom 6. My Lightroom 6 serial number is correctly in my Adobe account under my registered products.

However, when I open Lightroom 6 on the new computer, it immediately goes to a registration/sign-in screen. I enter my Adobe account credentials, but after signing in, nothing happens and the application never proceeds past the registration/activation screen.

Additional details:

  • Lightroom 6 installed successfully
  • This is a valid perpetual license purchased years ago
  • Serial number is still visible in my Adobe account
  • Old computer/version previously worked fine
  • Old computer included the only other time I used this registration (single device)
  • I am not trying to use the subscription version

Has anyone recently been able to successfully activate Lightroom 6 on a new computer? Is there a workaround, offline activation method, or known fix for the sign-in loop/registration screen issue?

I have searched this forum for solutions to this issue, but it seems several of the older links provided are no longer working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where are the instructions for offline activation?  That is where I am stuck.

I have heard conflicting information about whether you can re-install Lr 6 if you have two previous activations that have not been de-activated. The only really way to find out is to try it.

Not one of the links work, but that’s fine I still have a copy of v6 and the patch. It’s the process to follow that I can’t find. There was one link about how to activate offline, but the link is dead.
Edit: I’ve just realised the link to LR download does not indicate anything is happening, but my computer is actually downloading LR 6 LS11.exe. Which is great to know the download still works, although that’s not what I need as I retain a copy of the software. My problem will be getting it licenced again when my new computer comes, as I’ve just logged into my adobe account and there’s no record of my purchase of Lightroom 2,3,4,5,or 6 in there.

I have found my old account buried in the archive. It still has all my old serials for all the adobe things I own. It also says there is nothing activated on any machine. God knows how because LR6 has been installed on the broken computer since 2016. But hopefully, I should be fine reinstalling now.

I just need to know who to go to to explain my story so I can reinstall and license Lightroom to my new computer. I’ve used it since it was first released, I can’t do without it. Can someone please explain the process?
So my computer died on me and following tech advice, I checked the SSD, and the RAM, and DISM, and a bunch of other things until finally I was asked to use Window’s own repair tool. It was not straightforward but eventually I had to reinstall windows but keep all my old files.
But Windows crashed again and eventually I ended up with nothing, computer completely wiped. It turns out there was a chip and a couple of small components burned out on the motherboard.
Anyway, the only problem I have with the new computer is installing all the software back onto it. Lightroom v6.14 is the only one that causes a problem as I have to use the licence, but if I did not deactivate the licence previously (which I could not do) then I can’t reactivate it.
(Sorry for the long story but the prompt told me to keep all detail. )
So, I just need to know who to go to to explain my story so I can reinstall and license Lightroom to my new computer. I’ve used it since it was first released, I can’t do without it. Can someone please explain the process?

Hello,

I do have the same problem of still using Lightroom 6 and wanting to install it on a new Win 11 Laptop.

All links to offline activation of Lightroom 6 in the older posts are dead. Can someone send me please instructions for installing Lightroom 6 offline?

Thanks,

Gerhard

I am sorry, I got Adobe Photo Lightroom 5. Just checked with Adobe account.

Downloaded Lightroom 5 and installed it but when I try to open it I get a message: “Configuration failed”.

Mac OS x 11.7.11 Big Sur
I tried to install on MacBook Pro (Late 2013) and iMac 27 (late 2015) without any success.

What makes you think you have downloaded Lr 5? The links are clearly to Lr 6.14
