There is no longer any on-line activation for Lr 6. To do the move, you will need to follow these instructions https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ and then to install Lr 6 you will need to use the offline activation method https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M580921

Dear Adobe Support,

I am writing to formally request the restoration of access to my legally purchased perpetual license for Adobe Lightroom 6.

When I purchased Lightroom 6 in 2018, it was clearly advertised and sold as a perpetual license. This means I obtained the right to use the software indefinitely in the version I paid for. I understand and fully accept that perpetual licenses do not entitle me to free upgrades or ongoing support. However, I do retain the legal and contractual right to continue using the version I purchased, as long as my hardware and operating system support it.

Unfortunately, I am now prevented from using Lightroom 6 due to Adobe Creative Cloud and Application Manager actively blocking or disabling the product. This goes far beyond the simple discontinuation of support. The issue is not about receiving updates or assistance – it is about being cut off from a product that I paid for in full and that I have every right to use.

To address possible arguments:

  • End of Support: I do not require customer support or new features. I am requesting access to the software version I lawfully purchased.
  • Compatibility: I am fully aware that newer operating systems may not be compatible, and I take full responsibility for running Lightroom 6 on my own system. Compatibility is not the issue here.
  • Activation Servers: While Adobe may choose to retire old infrastructure, it has the responsibility to provide a working offline activation method (or equivalent) for perpetual licenses. Blocking activation entirely is equivalent to revoking a license that was sold as permanent.
  • Transition to Subscription: While Adobe has the right to offer subscription models for new products, it cannot unilaterally invalidate existing perpetual licenses as a means of forcing customers into Creative Cloud. This constitutes a restriction of rights and a breach of consumer trust.

I therefore request that Adobe:

  1. Restore my ability to use Lightroom 6 with my valid serial number, either by re-enabling activation or by providing an offline activation solution.
  2. Confirm that I may continue to use my perpetual license without interference from Adobe Creative Cloud.

I purchased Lightroom 6 in good faith, with the understanding that “perpetual” means lifetime usage of the licensed version. Restricting or disabling access is not only unfair, but it also undermines confidence in Adobe’s licensing practices.

I kindly ask for a prompt and constructive resolution.

Sincerely

Please scroll backwards through this thread, there are many links to posts that describe how to install Lr 6 as of September 2025.

That's the role of developers to provide solutions for me in that situation. Not mine, nether your to digging forum in searching for alternatives.

Help. How do I restore my Lightroom app? I had Lightroom before it transitioned to a subscription model, and I would like to renew it now. When I click on the LR icon, this is what I get. I am on a new Mac mini

A new Mac Mini will come with a recent operating system that is 64bit.

Your legacy Lightroom will not operate in a 64bit system as obsolete Lightroom relies on some 32bit components to install and operate.

Time for a subscription to a compatible version. See the "Lightroom Plan 1TB' at-

No, you cannot transfer software from one computer to another. You can reinstall Lr 6, the instructions are here:

During a period of illness and PC crash somehow I lost Lightroom 6 when repairs were done. I have the serial number which I got from the Adobe register. I have communicated with Adobe re this but they simply tell me all sorts of stuff that doesnt help me. The download link is now not available. I am a pensioner and so the newer subscription software is out of the question. Since hearing from Adobe I have found Lightroom 6 still exists on my laptop ( not used for some time), is there a way to get this across to my newly repaired desktop and have it running .. Help please.

HI! My Windows PC has developed a fault and so I replaced it today. My first job is to reinstall LR6 but the information here indicates the installer is no longer available.

Is there a workaround for this?

thanks for you help.

Hallo ...

Hello all

I changed laptops (both), and wanted to reinstall 6.14

I have the installer files, and am aware that I need to use offline activation

Problem is that it seems that the registration server kept a trace of previous installs:

I still have access to the old devices, so I reinstalled LR6.14 on both (I had cleaned their drive), and used offline activation on both. It worked, so that means that these are the two devices that the offline activation server knows about.

I have then uninstalled LR on both old machines, using the Creative Cloud app, and then signed off the Creative Cloud app on both old machines.

But the offline activation still fails with the same message when I input the request code for the new machine.

Can someone please assist, and deactivate old device IDs? I can give the Mac serial numbers of the old devices in this thread if needed

The Creative Cloud app doesn't has anything to do with Lightroom 6. Even if you can and has uninstalled LR6 via the app, the license has been released.  BEFORE you uninstall Lightroom 6.x you have to deactivate the approriate installation in Lightroom itself.

Abode has stopped supporting Lightroom 6 serveral years ago and the stopped also the possibility to reset the activation counter.  So nobody can help.

If you can reinstall Lightroom on the old devices you has to do it and deactivate the licenses. If this doesn't work you're out of luck.

"The Creative Cloud app doesn't has anything to do with Lightroom 6"

Correct.!  In fact IIRC  having the CC App  installed converts Lr6 (Serial Number version) to Lr-CC2015  (the 'subscription' version) of Lr6-  only useable (after the 30day trial) by paying the monthly/yearly subscription.

Hi there,

first thanks to all that answer questions here!

I have installed LR6 on one machine. I guess to install and use it on another machine (going on vacation for 3 weeks) i need to at least sign of on my main machine.

My Problem is to manage this. In my account on activated devices i do not see any device, thus i am not able to remotely sign off one device?

Is there a way to fix this? Is it supposed to be and stay empty? Within Licenses i see the LR6 license.

At this place you see only devices you're activated CC applications on.

I just had to update my PC, but now Adobe won't let me reload LR6- it shows as registered on my account, but won't let me download it- say installer no longer available

Any ideas on how to get it back?

I have been using Lr version 6 desktop for several years.  I have decided to subscribe to Lr Classic.  I downloaded the Lr Classic desktop software and have unsucessfully been able to open my Lr version 6 catalog.  Is there anyway to open my old catalog and convert it so that I can continue using this catalog in Lr Classic?  If not, what are my options to get everything I have worked on for years into a new Lr Calssic catalog including presets, edits, previews, etc.

Opening your Lr6 catalog with Lr-Classic- Do you see any error messages? (quote in exact words). And provide some more details of your catalog location, etc.

There were a few forum posts with a similar situation (upgrading a v6 catalog) that required an install of an earlier version of Lr-Classic eg. Version 13.0 (still available in the CC Desktop App) to upgrade the v6 catalog, then after catalog success upgrade to Lr-Classic v14.4

Also another error message thata has been seen warns about a missing { .LRCAT-DATA} folder, but this is not a problem- ignore this message if you see it.  ( IIRC  {.LRCAT-DATA} folder did not appear in installs until LrC v13.3  )

I see no error messages when opening Lr 6.x  All functioning ok there?  Should I download Lr Classis v13 and try opening my Lr 6.x catalog?  Then download version 14?
