P: Tethering support requests and information

This post is applicable to Lightroom Classic.

ETAs for tethered support for specific cameras are not available.

Tethered Capture is a feature of Lightroom Classic that allows the direct connection of your camera to the Lightroom desktop environment. Images are imported into your Lightroom catalog as they are captured via the connected camera.

New camera support for reading the raw files is generally added quickly after a camera is released by its manufacturer.  New camera support can be verified here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

Tethered support for a particular camera model normally follows a version or two after the raw file support. Adobe relies on the manufacturer’s (Nikon & Canon) SDK (Software Development Kit) to facilitate the tethering of your camera to Lightroom. The timing of the release of a manufacturer’s support via their SDK greatly affects the time to release for tethered support. In addition, Adobe goes through a rigorous process of integrating the functionality of the SDK and tests tethering before support is announced.

To see if your camera is supported for tethering on your version of Lightroom, refer to this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

If your camera is listed, but your Lightroom version is too old, you may need to update or upgrade to enable tethering.

If your camera is not listed, and your camera’s raw file isn't supported, you would need to check with the camera’s manufacturer to see if they support tethering via their SDK.

Note: Not all camera manufacturers or models will necessarily receive tether support.

I purchased an R5C two years ago last Month and I’ve spent two years trying to get Adobe to add the camera to tethered camera list. Even yesterday at the BILD show in NY I spoke with Lisa and Estaban, from Adobe. She kept on telling me they were working on it which is the same BS they have said for The last 2 years. Truth is, Adobe is blaming canon but according to senior executives at canon they are lying. Adobe might be regarding or reclassifying the R5C into the cinema class of cameras which it is and is not. It is a hybrid but it is a camera that is ahead of its time. Come on Adobe wake up. EVOTO works with the camera, so you can too unless the Chinese are smarter than you. Get off your asses and publish the reason you cannot make it work or fix your issue!! The least you should do is publish reasons why it takes you 2-3 years to add a camera when new cameras come out yearly and they get added! Explain.

This IS a bug, not a discussion topic.  R5 MK II Has been out for almost a year, with other software already supporting it.  Either explain the real reason why you can't do this , or just get it done. Don't give me some 4 year old junk post about SDKs (SDK with R5 Mk II CAME OUT 12/5/2024) not being available, you are ADOBE.....  Is Capture One now the Zoom to your Webex?

This is like Lamborghini being constitutionally incapable of producing more than 180 HP for their supercars.  Yeah, they look nice, but they can only do 60 MPH....   Their brand and the price they have is

elite and a premium.

Also, I am not asking for an obscure camera like the ACME 5 Megapixel Floppy Express 2.12, ITS ONE OF THE CANON FLAGSHIP CAMERAS of 2025!!

You guys are not bargain basement photo editing software.  YOU ARE THE STANDARD.  Get this done!

********* Original Post **********

Lightroom doesn't support R5 MK II tethering yet.  It supports R6 Mk II though.... What the heck?  Folks at Adobe, get to it, and use your Adobe Muscle to push Canon to give you the SDK you supposedly need to make this happen (Capture One Supports Since Aug 2024).  The Auto Import is a cruddy bandaid and my new $4000 Camera is a brick for my process without this feature.

Get this done please, it's been long enough it's now embarrassing.  This is definitely now a technical issue/bug in my book.

Capture One supports R5 Mk II Tethering, and so why can't the flagship editing software company get it done sooner than they can?  Let's see this in the next update please and fix this bug!

-Chris

NOTE:  Here's the capture One data showing they support this feature since August 2024.....  C'mon

Supported tethered capture cameras in Lightroom classic is listed here :

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

Canon R5 mark ii is not part of it even though the camera was released last year.

Other tools are already having this fonctionnality (like Canon DPP4 and Capture One). When do you plan to do something ?

Hi all

the tethering function of the EOS R5 MARK II is still not supported by LrC.

I miss the feature since more than halb a year. Anyone else?

When is it planned to support the tethering for the EOS R5 MARK II?

Hi,

Just got my Canon EOS R5 Mk II and Adobe Lightroom Classic doesn't support tethering yet?!  How is this a thing, 7 months after launch?  I use my 5D MK IV Tethered in the studio and review photos with my clients, and now I cannot do that?  I heard Capture One already supports this feature.  When will Tethering the R5 Mk II be supported by Lightroom Classic?  Until then I just bought a $4K brick unless I go to a competitor program.  This is extremely disappointing.  Please make this a priority to get into the next Lightroom Update.

The Canon SDK with support for R5m2 is already released since July 2024.

But until now there's not yet support for R5m2 for tethering in LRC!

How long do we have wait?

OS: Windows 10 Pro version 22H2

LRC: version 14.1.1 Camera Raw 17.1

R5m2: version 1.0.2

Please describe exactly what you mean with "connect Sony 6600 with Lightroom".

The Sony A6600 was supported bei Lightroom Classic since version 9.0.

Or do you mean the Tethering support? See here which camera are supported: A list of cameras that can be tethered to Lightroom Classic

Adobe makes no statements about when which camera is supported and whether a particular camera is supported at all

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

Gostaria de sugerir atualização para fazer captura vinculada da camera Sony ILCE-7RM3.

Preciso da captura vinculada para trabalhar no meu estúdio.

Agradeço desde já!
