Some Ai models failed to download. Please try again later

Since updating to latest version 15.3 I cannot use my presets or update AI edits.

When I try I get a box appear saying I am downloading AI models. This gets to 99% then stops. Then when I try to use presets or update the AI edits I get a red box that says ‘some Ai models failed to download. Please try again later.

This has been going on since yesterday. I have tried uninstalling LR and reverting to previous version but problem persists.

Any ideas?

    Hi @stewart_1362 @MHPHOTO @Wayward_Spirit @Joanne_Charnwood,

Thanks for continuing to work through this. I understand how disruptive this has become.

Before we collect additional logs, I’d like to rule out software or network services interfering with the AI model download and validation.

Could you please try one controlled test:

    1. Start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking.

    2. Do not launch any other applications, VPNs, third-party antivirus/security tools, or network-filtering utilities.

    3. Right-click Lightroom Classic > Run as administrator.

    4. Allow the AI models to download and test the affected AI feature.

    Please also confirm:

    • Is this your personal computer, or is it managed by your company/organization?

    • Are you normally connected through a home network, office/corporate network, or another restricted/managed network?

    • Have you already tested using a mobile hotspot rather than the same broadband/ISP connection?

If the model still fails to validate in Safe Mode with Networking, please let us know. That will help us rule out several system-level variables before we take the logs and findings back to the team.

If it doesn't please reproduce the AI model download failure once, then before restarting Lightroom Classic, collect the contents of:

    Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Logs\

Please ZIP the Logs folder, upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, or a similar service, then click my profile name > Send Message and send me the download link privately.

Thanks again for your patience, and we’ll continue investigating this with you.

    Best,
    Anshul Saini

    Dear Adobe,

Your latest updates are for the first time making me think of alternatives.

This and tons of other bugs. Just test your stuff properly before making another feature release, and please fix all nonsense ASAP.

Please remember, we ARE NOT your BETA TESTERS.

I need to find a non-Bluetooth keyboard first!  Which makes it a troubling solution!!!

I have been getting the “Some AI models failed to download” error since updating to V15.6.  I’ve tried the fixes listed here and, also, those listed through an online search. I still get the error.

One thing that I noticed is that when I changed the name of ModelZoo in the folder “C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\ModelZoo”, it did not generate a new ModelZoo folder when I restarted Creative Cloud, Lightroom and Camera Raw.  The properties are set to enable read / write for this folder.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Michael

Using Safe Mode with Networking and running LR Classic as administrator seems to have worked for me.  LR Classic now seems to be working normally now.  Thanks.

I had a problem with Lightroom Classic where the AI models would download but repeatedly get stuck at 99%. AI masking features such as Select Subject and Select People consequently failed.

After quite a bit of investigation, this turned out not to be a simple permissions or GPU problem.

    System:

    • Windows 11

    • Lightroom Classic 15.6

    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU

I checked the Lightroom/Camera Raw ModelZoo folder at:

    C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\ModelZoo

My Windows account had read/write access and Lightroom was successfully creating the CloudDownload folder, Index.dat, manifests and substantial AI model files. For example, the People model (people_1014_fp16.data) was present at around 77 MB.

The Camera Raw/Lightroom logs were particularly useful. They can be found under:

    C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Logs

The logs showed model downloads subsequently failing validation. In particular, there were errors along the lines of:

*** Error: Failed to validate the tmp file.

The downloads appeared to be slightly short of their expected sizes, despite the download request itself apparently succeeding. This explained why Lightroom could look as though it had almost completely downloaded a model but then fail to install/use it.

The breakthrough was trying the download while connected through a VPN.

I connected through a VPN endpoint in the Netherlands, restarted Lightroom and allowed it to download the models again. This time the download completed successfully and the AI functionality worked.

So, if Lightroom Classic AI model downloads repeatedly stick at 99%, particularly if deleting/re-downloading the models doesn't help, it may be worth trying a different network route or a VPN before reinstalling Lightroom or changing GPU drivers.

In my case, the evidence suggests the problem was somewhere in the normal network/CDN download path rather than Lightroom being unable to write to ModelZoo or run the AI models. The VPN changes several variables at once, so I can't say whether the underlying cause was ISP routing, Adobe CDN selection, DNS, IPv6 or something else.

The useful diagnostic sequence for me was:

    1. Check read/write access to the CameraRaw\ModelZoo folder.

    2. Check that model .data files and manifest.json files are actually being created.

    3. Look in the Camera Raw logs for Failed to validate the tmp file.

    4. If downloads repeatedly reach 99% and then fail validation, try downloading the models over a different connection or VPN.

Hopefully this saves someone else from repeatedly deleting ModelZoo or reinstalling Lightroom when the problem may actually be with the download path.

I checked the logs and I have -

*** Error: Failed to validate the tmp file.

I tried downloading the Ai models with a different network and vpn but didn’t work for me unfortunately

I am having the exact same problem - it is proving to be a massive issue in my commercial work which is impacting client delivery severely!  I am going to have to actively investigate alternative software if this persists more than another day or two!!!

Tried all the suggested remedies and nothing is working.

    System details are as follows:

    The AI models downloaded again.
Finally the update of processing the image is complete. I was also able to export it.

    Hi @stewart_1362,

Thanks for asking. @DhandaNot was able to complete the AI model download after running Lightroom Classic as Administrator.

Could you please try the same: close Lightroom Classic, launch it with Run as administrator, and then let the AI models download again.

Also, please check that your Windows user account has read/write permissions for the Lightroom Classic installation folder and the ModelZoo folders:
    Installation folder

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\

    Lightroom catalog (default):

    C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\Lightroom\

    Lightroom settings/preferences:

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\

    Camera Raw/AI models:

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\ModelZoo

    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\ModelZoo

After confirming the permissions, try the affected preset or AI edit again and let us know whether the issue is resolved.

    Best,
    Anshul Saini

I restarted Lightroom and it is again trying to download AI models. So we seem to be back to square one.
