Question

Unaple to import images after recent update

Hello,

I am on Adobe Creative Cloud and LR Classic had an update take place.  Subsequent to the update, I am unable to import images from any location (hard drive, external hard drive, desktop, etc.).   I can see them to select, however, the progress bar just shows, "Import files at their current location" and the main page shows, "Importing files...".  Nothing imports.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times and shutdown and restarted my computer several times with the same result.  The folder shows in the Library, but looks dithered out and has three (3) dots ... in place where there should be the number of images.  Please advise on a solution.  Thank you!

I will have a stab at the problem-

I see in your screen-clip that your Catalog is located on Windows ONEDRIVE.

That is a Cloud Sync system. Everything you do in Onedrive folder syncs to the cloud.

Note also the 'Status' of folders in your "Lightroom" system- many are currently syncing.

My suggestion is to move your Lightroom system folders with Catalog, etc to a local folder. (eg. C:\Users\Yourname\pictures\Lightroom)

    Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Let me repost just a bit of your system information, two areas of concern, first one probably not causing your issue, second one could be causing your issue, perhaps.

    ...
Operating system: Windows 10 - Home Premium Edition
    Version: 10.0.17763
    ....
    Graphics Processor Info:
    Check OpenGL support: Failed
    Vendor: Intel
    Version: 3.3.0 - Build 20.19.15.5058
    Renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400
    LanguageVersion: 3.30 - Build 20.19.15.5058
    ...

    1. Your Windows OS is out of date. Some fetures of Lightroom Classic (Enhanced Details comes to mind) will not be available to you as it requires Windows 10 build 1809

    2. Your GPU or lack of one. Is this a Laptop/Notebook? An Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 makes me think Notebook. Did this Notebook come with just an Integrated Video Controller? Or does it include a GPU perhaps by AMD or NVIDIA?

The information as shown about your graphics indicates an issue. see the following link:

Okay that seems like they would impact that for sure. This is a desktop computer, the kind that the drive is built in to the monitor.

I went to settings on my computer and it says that it is up to date. I am not familiar with the Integrated Video Controller, AMB or NVIDIA. I'll search for them. What are your recommendations?

The web page is giving me grief on replying to one of your replies. So, for your inquiry on "Where I Get that information?" I have replied to your original posting

If you are refering to where to get the system information as lightroom reports it. I gave that route, but here it is word by word

    • Bring up your copy of Lightroom Classic (if you are not already in it)
    • Up top, notice the menu bar.
    • Notice in the menu bar the tab titled HELP
    • Click on Help
    • A pull down screen will appear, notice amongst others the line System Info,  click on that.
    • A screen will appear showing the System Information, Notice the button titled Copy, click on it
    • Reply in this forum, Start your reply by typing in "System Information as follows"
    • Do not bother adding more to your reply, this new forum has issues. Instead clcik on Post
    • Now edit that reply, place your cursor after the text you previously tped in, press the enter key, right clcik and select paste. Post that.

Is this where I get that information? The size keeps growing every second. Since I took the screenshot and posted this it is now at: 7.37 GB

Please post your system information as lightroom reports it.

Note, in this new forum, this can be a bit of a $%^^, If you reply to this reply, you will get a poor one line edit window. If so, start your reply, post it, then turn right around and edit it to complete.

Also, not as an attachment. Just paste info into body if reply. Avoid using that (insert cuss here) attachment button, just annoys us old grumpy types.

And review how it looks, you might have to fix stripped out returns

Anyhow. In Lightroom Classic, click on Help, click on System Information, click on Copy. Paste into reply. Might want to delete info following the plug-in info as all that OpenGL stuff is basically gobbledygook

In the hard drive your catalog is located on. The catalog, not the images (unless the same drive) how much free space remains (%) ?

In the second screenshot posted by the OP, I notice that previews foe Embedded plus sidecar files are being generated. Can this be slowing things down so much that the OP gives up on waiting for completion?

I don't think so because I have narrowed it down to try to import just a single image and then 3 images. All attempts have failed. The only thing that is different from when I used this last succesfully is that LR updated. What do you think?

In the first screenshot, the three dots ...  to the right of the Segste Backup Plus’s drive are nothing more than ellipsis indicating more text than shown. Nothing to do with your issue

How can I access my photos? They are not importing. When I go to the library, it shows zero images

Is that drive connected directly to your computer or a networked drive?

Also check the GPU setting in the LR preferences, Performance tab, and if it is turned on try turning it off then try to do the import.
