Question

Undated UI

Just spend a little time udating font settings and give us more control how the boxes display in library side. Show us you still plan on keeping us around in 10 years. I know it’s the idea to get everything to the cloud but problem is us old timers and maybe so now new comers are figuring it out, we don’t want our personal images on the internet on someone else’s servers. Who knows what will happen and all it takes is a wind storm to disconnect you from your entire life’s collection. Not permanently, at least not so far but shows you how easy this would be to achieve. Keep it local and keep it personal. Let us know you care about LRC please. If there was a single option like Capture One that could handle a 300k library as efficient as LRC, I’d move over in an instant. You should think about that and make that decision a little more difficult because Capture One or someone WILL eventually catch up (I Hope).

I am agree. Many of us use Lightroom Classic because it keeps our photos local and under our control. A few meaningful updates and a clear commitment to Classic would go a long way toward keeping longtime users loyal.

I too have concerns over the MOVE towards everything being put in the cloud.

I live between 2 motorhomes in 2 different countries.

Internet connection is an ongoing challenge for me. I have to maintain prepaid plans for data connections or else I am paying for 24 months of bandwidth a year. Both speed and cost are an issue in both cases.

At times there is still issues of just being out of range of any mobile data service.

I also have concerns as an older person with a catalogue that is growning - now over 120,000 images, that if it were all in the Cloud, just what might happen to it when I am in a position where I cannot afford to pay for the space, or worse still - if there is an issue following on from the owners death and there is no continuity of payment for the space.

I maintain a collection of USB 5TB external drives for storage and backup purposes.

My original message was not a technical support request. I am not reporting a bug, so my computer specifications are not relevant. This is product feedback and a feature request.

There are two things I would like to see.

First, please give us more control over photos, fonts and the way folders, collections, and Library panels are displayed. Better options for readability and layout would make a noticeable difference, especially for those of us managing very large catalogs.

Second, please continue investing in Lightroom Classic as a local first application. Many of us have spent years building catalogs with hundreds of thousands of images because we want our photo libraries stored on our own computers. Cloud features are a good option for people who want them, but many of us simply are not interested.

From the outside, it has often felt like the new Lightroom was created to encourage users toward cloud storage. I understand why that makes business sense for Adobe, but it is not the direction I want to go. I want to keep my photos local and under my control. Therefore I do not have Lightroom installed on my devices.

What many long time Lightroom Classic users are really looking for is reassurance that Adobe plans to continue developing and MODERNIZING Lightroom Classic for many years to come. Show us that commitment by continuing to improve the desktop experience instead of treating it like a product that is only being maintained.

I have a catalog of about 300,000 images, and Lightroom Classic still handles a library that size better than anything else I have tried. If another company eventually offers the same performance with a strong local first approach, I would seriously consider switching. I would rather stay with Lightroom Classic, but Adobe should make that decision a difficult one by continuing to invest in the product. One such company you might want to watch out for is Mylio.

I agree that the UI could be more readable with more flexibility. Others agree too, there is an existing related feature request about this so you may want to add your vote and comment to it here:

If you have more ideas about the UI layout, you can see if there’s already an existing request in the Feature Requests section so you can vote it up, or you can create a new one there about how you think it should be done.

But the lack of change in that area isn’t evidence that the product is being abandoned.

What many long time Lightroom Classic users are really looking for is reassurance that Adobe plans to continue developing and MODERNIZING Lightroom Classic for many years to come.

There has actually been a lot of effort put into modernization, but it’s the invisible kind. Over the last few years, a great deal of the internal code has been overhauled to take full advantage of newer hardware, like extending GPU acceleration to export and to preview generation (a major improvement for bulk processing speeds), and re-enabling the Apple Neural Engine for Denoise (cuts down time by roughly half depending on the Mac). They also added the end-to-end HDR workflow so those with full-range HDR cameras and displays can now make full use of them in Lightroom Classic.

On the software side, they regularly continue to implement feature requests. In last month’s release, the big news was that they finally implemented a popular long-requested feature:

To me, there would be no reason to invest that level of engineering resources on fundamental performance and integration if they were planning to drop the software soon. Working on the foundation strongly suggests that Lightroom Classic will be around for a while. The main question is when they will turn their attention to the basic UI design.

I appreciate the response. I never questioned Lightroom Classic's technical integrity. I think it's still the best product for managing large local photo libraries. I did and still do question somewhat the reasoning behind the naming convention of Lightroom and now Lightroom Classic.

My point is simply that the everyday user experience has fallen behind. Maybe those improvements just aren't considered important because they aren't as exciting or profitable, but they're the things I see and use every day. There is nothing I can say really that hasn’t already been said. I think I might move on and try other softwares out there and see if I find a better solution for myself.

I come to the opposite position. It is clear to me that Adobe is trying to keep Lightroom Classic relevant and roughly equivalent or better than other image processing software.

Sorry, but I don’t understand what’s your exact issue or question.

Please decribe your issue/problem/question/feature request more detailed. And gave us more information about your system. In this case we can try to help. In other cases all provided solutions are only guesswork.
