Is it loading all the photos into RAM?

That's not how LrC work, it never does this.

Or is Adobe scanning them all and stealing them for their Firefly?

If you think Adobe is stealing your photos, you should stop using Adobe product immediately, and engage the services of a lawyer.

Where are you seeing that? In the Task Manager? Can you post a screenshot of that info.

The file size of the database, the catalog, and the RAM in use by the program, do not strictly relate to one another.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

3. On that P drive, with the catalog in it, how much free space in percent. Looking for at least 20% free, some say 25%

4. In LrC, in the Library Module, in the Folders panel, anything odd like a missing folder. And in ALl Photographs, any missing photos?
