Upgrade from Lightroom 5 to Lightroom 6 standalone.

I have had Lightroom 5 for several years and now would like to upgrade to Lightroom 6. What I have found on the Adobe website is only Lightroom CC that needs a subscription. This is to expensive for me as an amateur photographer. My question is, is there a way to still upgrade to Lightroom 6 standalone?

It use to be viewed and bought through the All Products page, which wasn't easy to find to begin with (small link at the bottom of the main Adobe website page) and then on the second page of that section. But it seems Adobe has removed that.

So it seems to me that Adobe has finally stopped selling any stand alone version of LR.

You can continue to use LR 5 as long as it works with the operating system you use on your computers. If you need newer camera support you can use the Free Adobe DNG converter program to convert the native RAW image files from your new camera to DNG files which will import into LR 5. Or you could switch to shooting JPG's.

Or you could sign up for the subscription based LR + PS plan.

Or you can move to some other image editing system.

Unless third party retailers like Amazon offer it for sale.

Amazon do offer it for sale, just looked, but they do say it is an old version and do offer a warning:

NOTE: Adobe will no longer provide updates for Lightroom 6 perpetual license software after December 19, 2017. Consider Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan or Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC to get the latest updates, and ensure that the software works with raw files from the newest cameras

But you can still buy it at the moment. (Though availability may depend on the region.)

I wouldn't advise buying Lightroom 6, as mentioned above it is unsupported and there is not a lot of difference between Lightroom 5 and 6. Not to warrant the price difference I think. So, really the only option is to continue with 5, or go subscription - Photography Plan - which in all honesty (at the moment) is a good deal, as you do get bang for your buck, or go with another product. There are a few out there. With the subscription, it's a matter of swings and roundabouts.

HI Ricky336, there is a difference between subscription and buying outright, after say 5 years, your subscription would be many times the amount you would have paid outright. And if you are retired, and careful about your spend, then subscription is not an option. I was hoping for an upgrade which would be cheaper than buying version 6 outright.

It's a way of life. I still own a license of Borland C++. If I would have taken a subscription, it would have been cheaper... That was not an option at the time, however. I have also still old copies of Word... I have all kind of old stuff somewhere...

Well, I recommend, if you are happy with your Lr copy to keep it, if you need to change change to something that fits your needs. Good luck.

I don't know if you can purchase LR 6 from Adobe. Sometimes (it seems this has happened), Adobe removes products from their web site without warning. You may still be able to purchase Lightroom 6 from Amazon or other retailers.

But please be aware that Lightroom 6 is unsupported software, they will take your money for the upgrade and provide no support, no bug fixes, no new features, no new camera support, no new lens support, etc. And that applies not just now, but forever. In Lightroom 6, the Map Module doesn't work, and will never be fixed. So, yes, you can upgrade to LR 6 if you can find a retailer that sells it, but I would not recommend that (even though I don't really know your financial situation).
