Question

2023 Photoshop Gradient Tool not working when using black to gradient

So I think I have discovered a bug with Photoshop 24.0.0   When trying to create a gradient from Black to Transparent the graient is not smooth.  It produces a harsh begining and the rest of the gradient is not even.  The gradient tool works perfectly the minute I change the gradient to a color like red or yellow.  BUT interesting enough, the gradient looks fine if I export to a png.  So the issue is only when working in Photoshop.

Welcome to the Photoshop community. Thanks for sharing the screenshots.

This results from the interpolation method you are using when creating a gradient.

It is default set to Perceptual; you can try changing it to Linear or Classic for different results.

Check this to learn more about this: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/gradient-interpolation.html

Let me know if this helps,

Thanks!
