Question

brightness/contrast layer in group is affecting entire image!?

Starting layer is 5 characters over transparent background.
I select 1 character with quick selection tool.

create group

create solid color layer (in group)

     create brightness/contrast layer (in group)

move brightness/contrast layer above solid color (in group)

Now when I adjust that brightness layer, it adjusts the brightness over all 5 characters.

I've had success before, but not today.  O_o

Thanks for the reply!
Here's one of the objects, (characters more accurately),

-separated into a group & recolored to yellow.

Adjusting color works perfectly, EVERY time.
Adjusting brightness (which intuitively should be for just that group & object as well) affects all.
Also, adjusting Group 1 setting from Normal to Pass Through had no effect.

What is the Group’s Blend Mode? (Edit: If the Group’s Blend Mode is »Pass Through« that is the expected behaviour.)

Why do you use a the Solid Color Layer with a Layer Mask and not Convert to Shape Layer?

Why do you use the Quick Selection Tool instead of loading the Type Layer’s transparency by ctrl-clicking the Layer’s icon in the Layers Panel?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
