Cant open files in Photoshop v27.6.0

On the file menu, all options to open are greyed out.

When I try to double-click on a PSD file on my computer (MAC STUDIO) nothing happens, the file doesn't open.

Occasionally the Open Recent option is available.

I have to quite Photoshop and reopen to get it to work, though it will soon stop working.

First thing I would try is a reset of the Photoshop preferences:

    Hi @Thijs de Leeuw @FixThisTrash,

Thanks for the additional reports and details. I’d like to rule out a couple of macOS file access/association issues first.

    Please check the following:

    • Right-click any PSD file > Get Info. Confirm it is correctly associated with Photoshop 27.6.
    • Then also check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. Make sure Photoshop is listed there and enabled. If not listed, add Photoshop manually, then restart it afterward.
    • Go to Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Photoshop > Settings > Performance (Mac), and uncheck "Use Graphics Processor." Restart Photoshop and try again.
    • Hold Shift while launching Photoshop to skip loading plug-ins.
    • Try opening the file from a local drive (not a network or cloud location).
    • Go to Edit > Preferences > Technology Previews (Windows) or Photoshop > Settings > Technology Previews (Mac), and uncheck "Enable Modern User Interface." Restart Photoshop and try again.

Since this appears intermittent and may involve document/file access state handling, could both of you also please share:

    • Photoshop System Info. Help > System Info. Copy & paste it here
    • A short screen recording showing attempting to open PSD files, Menus becoming greyed out & Photoshop partially responding.
    • Does the issue happen with ALL files or specific files?
    • Did this issue start immediately after updating to v27.6.0?

Let us know the details, and we'll dig in further!

    Best,

The new 27.7.0 release still has this happening. And it seems like other people also having this issue. Like this post on here.

Unchecking "Enable Modern User Interface" in Settings seems have a positive effect.

pref reset does not work.  I had to move to another machine, and it's doing the same thing, but thanks for allowing me the pleasue of resetting all my shortcuts.

I seem to have the same issue. Even after a reset of the Photoshop preferences and a clean install of photoshop.

Opening a PSD file through double-click or cmd+o the regular opening animation runs but nothing actually opens in Photoshop. It seems to happen less when not opening PSD’s to quickly after one another.

I can still navigate some Photoshop panels like I can pick a different brush. All menu items are greyed out. I can quit Photoshop. After restarting Photoshop PSD’s tends to open until they randomly don’t.

Thanks. That seems to have worked. Well it’s worked all day today :)

    Thank you.
