Question

Have newest version of PHotoshop but getting message that will not open in a future release of MacOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version.

I have the latest version of Photoshop,  27.6.0. However I just got a pop up window on my Mac saying

“Support Ending for Intel--based Apps. This version of “Photoshop 2026” will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple Silicon version.”

But this latest version of Photoshop is the silicon version (and has been since version 22 or so).  What is going on? A Mac bug?

For some reason, Photoshop has a process called “Node” that is still Intel-only. Hopefully it’ll be updated soon.

Camera Raw is definitely universal, not Intel only, unless you haven’t updated that in ages. I don’t know about the other two, but like I said: ignore this for now. This is not an error dialog, just an early warning that there may be an issue in future MacOS versions. There is no need to delete anything right now. Leave it to Adobe to sort this out in due time.

I did some searching and discovered the same so I left camera raw. One plug-in that definitely was Intel specific was a WEBP creation plug-in. I deleted it because Photoshop after version 26 supports WEBP creation natively without use of a plug-in.
I have discovered there is an amazing amount of excess leftover cruft and previous version (CS4, 5, 6, a beta, Bridge 2023 etc) garbage left in the Adobe folder in the library of my Mac, but I am reluctant to delete things for fear of breaking the installation of Photoshop and Bridge which I do use.

Adobe files and folders in your user account, under the main application <version> folder, can in principle be deleted without ill effects. It will basically just return the application to clean factory state. But don’t delete any of the other folders, they may be tied to licensing and so on.

If you have folders from previous versions in your user account, it’s probably because you uninstalled, but chose the option to keep preferences. These can be deleted unless you plan to reinstall.

Similar reports are made by some people about Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Maybe some additional file, like an older plugin you may even have forgotten about, is still Intel only. I would ignore it for now.

DOH!  Totally forgot I had several plugins installed, often for single projects over the years. Currently I rarely use any plugin.  My Plugin panel is empty now. In the Plugins folder I see only one empty folder named Generator.
    In /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC/ I have:

    • WebPShop.plugin
    • Substance3DViewerForPs.plugin
    • Camera Raw.plugin

I don’t use Camera Raw, but don’t want to delete the other two unnecessarily. I see no info about architecture in the file info display.

Running PS 27.7 on M1 Max Mac Studio, MacOS 26.5, a Universal app, NOT in Rosetta Mode.  I am getting pop up warnings about “Intel support ending in a future OS release.” Any idea why the Apple Silicon version of PS is still getting these warnings?

I’m seeing the same popup message. It looks like some parts of PS are still using Intel code only? [maybe some plugin…]

I get the same message for photoshop and one other program. If you click Learn More it leads you to this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102527?cid=mc-ols-rosetta-article_102527-macos_finder-52526201

Getting the same message without Photoshop Running in Rosetta, not checked in app info.  I think it’s just a bug maybe.

    M4 Studio btw.

yes, getting same message without photoshop running in Rosetta, I’m running an M2 pro, and am running photoshop v27.7 and MacOS 26.5.  Its not a very helpful message - perhaps being flagged to more users than intended?

Thanks. I actually called Apple support to ask them, because I have had it happen with at least one other utility app. They had no idea. I have done multiple virus and malware scans, system wide, etc. And have always done so. Nothing has shown up. So wondering if it is some slightly strange bug… maybe also related to connecting an older Mac to my network recently (I rarely use it as connected to the Network, just for image work with WIFI off in my studio, so “isolated”).  It is likely still using Intel chips, and the newer versions of Photoshop are incompatible with it. So maybe this is a kind of system wide warning because of that Mac? That would seem weird though, but I suppose possible, as any of my Apple hardware is “linked” when on and connected to my network.
