How can I re-install Photoshop CS6 if Adobe thinks I have the max number of devices activated (even though I don't)?
I realize that Photoshop CS6 is a very old product, but I would like to continue to use it. It is an excellent product.
Currently, I have one computer using CS6, with proper activation, and I do not need or want to change that first installation.
I attempted to install CS6 on a new machine yesterday (14 Feb 2026), but the installation failed due to the fact that I still had a second, older computer activated for CS6. I deactivated that instance on the second computer. The deactivation panel indicated that Adobe has perceived that I have deactivated the old computer’s instance of CS6. I have uninstalled the CS6 software on that second computer.
I want to install the CS6 software onto a new computer. But I have run into all kinds of trouble when it comes to activating the software. Here is my sequence of events:
First: Adobe recognized the activation code I provided for CS6 on the new computer. Adobe said that the code is valid.
Second: Adobe asks me to sign in with the QR code or special URL. I am able to reach the website via browser. I enter my Adobe ID, authenticate with a token provided via email, and then I enter my password. Adobe accepts all three. But then I get a perpetual spinner. This is something that is happening today (15 Feb 2026), but it was not happening yesterday when I attempted the new installation previously. Repeated attempts to get signed into the authentication servers have not been successful. I closed out of the window; I though I’d try going in from the newly-installed app instead.
Third: I opened the new CS6 installation and I was prompted for the activation code. I provided it. Adobe tells me that there are still two devices that are active for CS6, even though I deactivated the older computer and waited several hours. I seem to be stuck at this point, and sought help from Adobe support.
An Adobe technician took a look at my setup via remote control, and they tried a few things. The tech was not able to do very much since CS6 is the “perpetual license” model rather than the subscription model. They said they did not have training for this problem, and directed me here to the support community.
I now have a thirty day trial for CS6 on my new computer. I can at least play around with the software. But long-term, I need to get that older, second activation eliminated so that I can use CS6 normally on my new computer. I need to do so in a way that does not alter or damage the first computer that is using CS6 normally. Is there anything I can do, or is there anyone who can help me get this straightened out?
