Is color management broken in PS v27.10.0?

Has anybody noticed a color management issue in the latest version of PS? I edited one of my Canon 5D Mark II files in both LRc and Capture One Pro and exported out a TIFF tagged with Adobe RGB. When I open either exported file in PS, the colors are quite a bit more saturated vs the app where I did the original edit. I have my color settings set to aRGB (I defer to embedded profiles, anyway) and my monitor is hardware calibrated. I’ve been using Adobe apps and other raw converter apps for many years, but I’ve never seen a color mismatch like this. FWIW, when I open the exported file in other image editors it doesn’t appear overly saturated as in PS.

Anyway, just thought I’d touch base with the PS community to see if anyone else has seen this issue. Oh, and I reset my preferences...no help.

It’s a well reported and acknowledged bug in Photoshop 27.10. The fix for now is to roll back to 27.9.1, which does not have this bug.

    Just so it’s cleared up:

This has nothing to do with document color spaces. In a color managed pipeline, any document color space should be correctly represented. There is no need for color spaces to match, that’s the whole point in color management.

This bug is about incorrect conversion into the monitor profile. That conversion is executed by the GPU, and that’s where the problem appears to be.

This error was introduced in v27.8, you will have to fall-back to v.27.7 to avoid the issue. (or desable the GPU 😮)

The bug we’re discussing here was introduced with 27.10, and reverting to 27.9.1 corrects it for everybody else - myself included. It’s possible you’ve had some other issue.

For the engineers to successfully track this problem, it’s important to pinpoint exactly where it changed.

Right, exactly. That's why this is important. The issue being discussed, namely the GPU not handling monitor color profiles correctly, appears to have started for many users with version 27.8. Various forums contain numerous reports describing the same behavior.

I am not looking to have a broader discussion about the matter, but for the very reason you correctly pointed out, it is important to determine exactly when the fault was introduced.

Following your reply, I upgraded to version 27.8, and the issue manifested immediately with the very first file I opened. I then upgraded further to version 27.10, but the problem persisted.

After that, I downgraded to version 27.7, and the issue disappeared. Colors are once again displayed correctly, confirming that the problem is related to a change introduced in a later version.

    Bonjour,

    La Version 27-10 est buggée.

J’aimerais une réponse d’Adobe qui reste insoutenablement muet!!

OK, I think Adobe’s servers must have been on a lunch break--took about 45 mins to install 27.9.1--but, dropping back a version fixed my color issues. Thank you, again, to @D Fosse for alerting me to this bug in the current version.

    @Claire H.

    1. The working color space is set to Adobe RGB (1998) and the TIFF file being opened is tagged with the same profile.
    2. I have an NEC Multisync monitor that is hardware calibrated on a regular basis with an i! Display puck.
    3. I exported the image from LRc in JPEG format. Same result; overly saturated color compared to the view in Lightroom.
    4. I set all Color Management Policies to OFF and have “Ask”, etc boxes unchecked. No change.

I really appreciate your help, but I’ve been burned in the past on these forums due to too much private information being posted. Therefore, I’m not inclined to post anything about my system. Not trying to be difficult here, but these are public boards.

I still think it’s something funky going on with PS or with PS’s interaction with Windows 11. For fact, I can open this same TIFF file in two other image editors and the colors match LRc exactly which, to my mind, leaves PS as the odd man out. Hopefully, some update will come along that will magically fix this issue I’m seeing.

THANK YOU! I suppose I should follow this community a little closer. I will rollback to 27.9.1 and see if that resolves my issue.

Hi @Alan9940, Welcome to the Photoshop Community forums! Let's try a few things and see if we can get the colors consistent.

    1. Check Color Space Settings in Photoshop:

      • Open Photoshop.

      • Go to Edit > Color Settings.

      • Ensure that the RGB working space is set to Adobe RGB (1998) to match the color profile of the TIFF files.

    2. Review Monitor Calibration:

      • Ensure that the monitor is calibrated correctly. Use a hardware calibration tool if available.

      • Check if any software settings might affect color display.

    3. Test with Different File Formats:

      • Export the images from Lightroom Classic as TIFF with different color profiles (e.g., ProPhoto RGB or sRGB) to see if the saturation issue persists across formats.

    4. Open the TIFF in Photoshop:

      1. Open the exported TIFF file in Photoshop and observe the color rendition.

      2. If the issue continues, try turning off any color management settings in Photoshop temporarily to see if it resolves the saturation problem.

If none of these steps work for you, could you send your system info and a screen recording of the issue? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. I hope this helps! ^CH

I have changed the color space to see if that made a difference but no, so I went back to the ProPhoto RGB.  However, if I go to the Camera Raw Filter, the colors are as in Lightroom Classic, but when I go back to photoshop form Camera Raw Filter the colors are drab again.
