Left click lock

For the last few days I have had this annoying issue where the left mouse button sticks on. Say if I am doing a free transform or panning around the screen (space bar + left click). I'll release the left mouse button but when I move the mouse the action keeps happening as though the left button is still pressed down. I then need to click the left mouse button again to release it. I am running the latest version of PS on Windows 10. I have checked the windows mouse settings and click lock is not enabled. I have also tried a new mouse just to make sure and the problem still remains. Could anyone shed any light? Thanks.

Hi Cory,
Solution 1 worked for me. More specifically:
- Made a backup of "Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings" folder
- Cleared preferences on launch (on Windows so ctrl + alt + shift, yes to prompt)
- Closed Photoshop, deleted the newly created settings folder and replaced with my backup
No longer seeing the left click sticking issue, even after a couple hours of regular workload. For reference, when I updated to version 24.3 I encountered this issue in less than 10 minutes.
Thanks

Still no fix since MONTH ... this bug is killing me ... text select, transformation, color picking.... it´s getting worse and worse. The performance is also terrible.

Lets give affinity designer a try.....

Maybe it´s a PC issue, i have no (mouse) problems on mac. But performance on mac is horrible. I´m talking about Artboards/Banners.....

PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core, 128 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB RAM, Win10 22H2

MAC: Mac Studio M1 Max, 64 GB RAM, Ventura 13.6.1.

The problem with the left-click-lock is still not fixed in the current update 25.1, although I have been going through the same crap over and over again for many hours with the service. This is costing me my time, and my time is very valuable to me.

What did go very quickly, however, is the fact that in the future the Generative Fill feature will be chargeable. Chapeau Adobe. I can't eat as much as I want to throw up.

Just checked in with this thread (removed), Adobe still hasnt fixed this issue? There's been (removed) how many updates since March and despite the many new features they've introduced, they somehow cant a bug that Im sure would be easily fixable. Either Adobe has remained completely ignorant of whats been happening or they do and choose not care. For their sake, Im hoping its not the latter but either way this reflects badly on an "Industry Standard Program".

I am just as frustrated as you all but I would like to offer some of solution...well more specifically a way of avoiding the left click gitch. I've noticed that it has a tendancy to be triggered if you're using specific keyboard commands like "shift + crtl + z" for redoing, "Shift + crtl + v" for pasting in place, or "Crtl + X" for copying and cutting. There might be others these are the commands I tend to use the most and whenever I used the keyboard commands for them instead of doing it the manual way, the left click lock would happen more often and much sooner, sometimes as soon as the program opened. Because of this, I've moved away from using those specific keyboard commands and have been going the manual route of going to the window tab. Its much slowler yes but it has meant I have been able to keep the program open for much longer. Though not by much considering how many times photoshop has crashed on me this year but tangents aside, I hope this can help cope with adobe's incompitence.

I just realized I made a post in this thread earlier this year about a similar observation except with the move and ellipse tools but I guess posting again wouldnt hurt right? XD

what an unsatisfactory service.

i have now had 4 phone calls with support and each time it costs me 1 - 2 hours and the same "tests" were performed and queried all over again:

- are the drivers up to date? Answer: YES, the drivers are always kept up to date.

- does this only happen on one computer? NO, the problem exists on every computer.

- do the computers have the same hardware? NO, the computers have different hardware and different graphics cards.

- do you have any other software installed that accesses mouse functions? NO, they are normal logitech mice

- does the problem happen in other applications as well? NO, only in photoshop

- does the problem happen in earlier versions of photoshop? NO, until version 23.1 everything worked fine

- is "scroll over" and "drag panning" active in the presets? NO, and it does not change the problem whether you enable or disable it

- is the problem also present in "windows safe mode"? NO, it is not

- when does the problem occur? the problem occurs, for example, when i rotate the canvas and release the mouse button WHILE rotating. if i hold the mouse completely still and then release the mouse button, it does not happen.

guys, with the new update it has become even worse - the problem now also occurs with the color picker. our whole workflow is broken because of this. we have to serve many customers and have been torturing ourselves for months now.

we are a photo studio and need photoshop as a tool for our daily work.

I now NO LONGER feel that this problem is taken seriously by adobe service.

today i had another phone call with adobe support. the employee tried to explain to me that only a refresh / reinstallation of the operating system would help. i explained to him that as an it expert i don't believe that. the problem only occurs in a few modules in photoshop and that only with versions newer than 23.xx. a rollback to version 23 makes the problem disappear. the employee asked me to send a screenshot of the problem. i wrote him the following email:

****
Dear Sir or Madam,

during our telephone conversation today, I was asked to provide a screen recording of the problem.

You can find the recording at the following address on my own server:

http://www.mcgraphix.de/images/video/adobe-support/left-click-lock-crop.mp4

http://www.mcgraphix.de/images/video/adobe-support/left-click-lock-colourpicker.mp4

I ask for feedback on how to proceed.
****

keep in mind: this was the 5th call from adobe, and every employee asks exactly the same questions. during the other calls, the employees were on my computer via remote maintenance and observed the problem live. there seems to be no internal communication....

Thank you for the report about your communication with the support.. We know now it's useless... Perhaps there is something we can do on social media?

Same issue here on latest version of Photoshop.. Left click get randomly stuck. All the solutions mentionned in this thread doesn't work. I re-created and re-installed photoshop so many times..
This issue is really related to the newest photoshop version. Would love to get a fix in stability and performance instead of new features.

I feel like it got much worse than it already was after the latest update. What an annoying bug.

Updated to 2025 version just now just to test out if the pen tool still gets click locked - and yes it is still there right off the bat. Adobe, as a $257.3B company, you need to be spanked.

OK, so disabling Overscroll fixed it, will see how it goes.

I have had to run through Chelsea2186290373zb's solution several times now.  I am grateful for it, but I feel like this needs an immediate fix, as this is a pretty big problem.  It is clearly not the settings or replacing them with basically the existing settings wouldnt be the solution.  There is some disparity there.
