Object selection tool crashes GPU

I am starting a new thread regarding my efforts to find the solution to the ongoing issue of GPU crashes with photoshop.

The main issue is when I attempt to use the object selection tool, my display goes dark, and the only may to recover is to hard shutdown my PC, and restart.

Unfortunately, the thread that I started two days ago has vanished after today’s community forum platform reset . .

This morning, I uninstalled all of my previous versions of adobe apps including photoshop, bridge, lightroom, RAW, BETA. I renamed all previous photoshop folders with .old (C drive Class / roaming/ app data / Adobe

I then Installed Photoshop 27.3 again fresh

I Confirmed that the preferences all reset to default. I adjusted my preferences including performance, Image processing (see screenshots)

Next, I tested many tools . . .including the removal tool, and they were all good :-)

Until, I tried the Object Selection tool . . . GPU Crash ☹️

I just installed v26.0 - The object selection tool worked well. The liquify tool also worked. FYI

I really appreciate your time and assistance. I have been a loyal professional user of photoshop for 20 years. I hope to utilize the "new" features in photoshop v27 soon. I have doing a work-around, by switching between V25 and v26 for 2 years - since v25, despite upgrading and rebuilding my PC in January 2025 , the issued has persisted :-(

Re: Object select tool crashes PC

Thank you for your suggestions I went down your listed (see details below) Unfortunately, the crash issues are the same. The "crash" I am experiencing is - my display going dark with no way to recover except to hard shut down of the PC, and pressing the PC power button to start again..

#1 I renamed the 2026 version file name to .old - I restarted the PC, and launched the 2026 version several times. same issue - no change.

#2 Installed BETA. tested the object selction tool. same issue - no change.

#3 Held shift key during launch. same issue - no change.

#4 confirmed one graphic card. Radeon RX 580 is default and in use by photoshop (see screenshots for perfomance and image processing settings.) Also confirmed use in the graphic card dashboard.

#5 tested graphic card dashboard perfomance setting as "performance" (with clocking adjustment), and also disabled performance setting by using the default setting. same issue - no change.

Thanks for sharing your System Info! It looks like the GPU drivers haven’t been updated in about six months, so I’d recommend installing the latest version to see if performance improves. You can grab the update with this guide: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/update-graphics-driver.html
