P: How to export to SVG from Photoshop?

I have a PS file that has text that I converted to a shape, plus another shape. I want to convert that to an SVG file, but, when I use the Explort As dialog, the only export file options are GIF, PNG and JPG. If I do Save As, the only options are Photoshop, Large Document Format, Photoshop PDF, and TIFF.

I searched the help system, there's nothing there that I can find. Did they remove SVG export from Photoshop?? I sure hope not. I have Photoshop 22.4.3.

Please read »Legacy 'Export As'« on this page:

As of now for Mac the option to use any legacy exports/save as is not available anymore. It has been removed poorly for mac btw. still keeping artefacts of it. Via the search the setting is still findable and it's supposed position is highlighted, but the option is gone.

As all posted alternatives are not suitable for most people (Personally I took over a project with tens of thousands of images with text layers we sometimes need to reexport to svg ...) but ...

there is another alternative, at least for text layers:

  • Select all text layers you like to export as svg (or the layer group)
  • right click -> copy svg
  • open an empty text file, paste & save as svg

As this is working flawlessly - why [cursing removed] there is not a menu entry doing this for us? For text layers or other layers which are of suitable shape that must be a solid alternative ... - even more so as all other alternative ways are not suitable at all: An online service which does convert one file at once only (and which is doing porly in my case), export as png then Illustrator, export as Illustrator path and then from there, adobe bridge ...

Why not simply add a simple menu entry on right click on suitable layers like text layers -> export as svg??? Maybe add the option to apply the whole height of the canvas.

I don't know if people still got the problem, but there is a simple solution: go to Files > Export > Export settings
In the settings window popping up, go to the bottom under "Settings" place a checkmark at the "use older/earlier "export as" and the hit "OK". now you can export as SVG 🙂

OBS sorry if my english or the actions aint called exactly what it's really called, i got my photoshop in danish. but hope you guys get the way to change it 🙂 Best regards

I don't like the idea that PHOTOSHOP 2024 cannot export a simple square in SVG.

Different tools for different tasks -- Photoshop is a pixel-based raster image editor; not a math-based vector graphics app.

Use Adobe Express FREE SVG Converter below to generate SVGs from your JPG or PNG files.  No purchase necessary.

https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/image/convert/svg

Hope that helps.

Hi, you can!

Navigate to Edit > Preferences > Export and check Use Legacy Export As. You might need to restart Photoshop for changes to take effect. This step ensures SVG support is activated. Export Workflow: For exporting a single SVG file, go to File > Export > Export As, then select SVG as the format.

You do realize that feature "Use Legacy Export As" has also been removed as well? [removed by moderator] Adobe wants us to pay for [Illustrator] now to do what photoshop used to do fine with its vector tools.

You can use Adobe Express and it will convert  jpg to svg with no issues.  https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/image/convert/jpg-to-svg

I just wanted to express my frustration about you guys removing such important features from your program. And in return add useless ones like that annoying AI tutorial popup. Geez.

Anyway: I just created a path and edited it manually until it was perfect. Took me over an hour. Now I noticed that the export as SVG feature is entirely missing, same for the 'use legacy save as'. Again, I do have a proper vector path ready, but how do I get it out of PS so I can edit it in Blender, just like I could before when I used an older PS version? Please help me! And no, I won't pay or install Illustrator just for that single thing.

Can't even edit or delete own posts here? Form software seems as bad as the products, lol.

Anyway, that clumsy and unnecessary, but functioning workaround from Jeff rescued me. I could save my work path this way and it exported as perfectly fine SVG into Blender. But as said, the products are just getting worse with every update. People who 🏴‍☠ probably laugh hard.

Stop removing basic functionality in an attempt to get us to use even MORE of your bloated overpriced software suite.
Adobe, destroyers of workflows in search of pushing more and more convuluted software.

Such an incredibly dissapointing company on pretty much every front.

========

Photoshop was NEVER a math-based vector graphics tool.  It has always been a pixel-based image editor.

Trying to put a square peg into a round hole never works out well.  When you need a math-based vector graphic, use a math-based vector graphics tool. You'll find plenty of options (free & paid) online.

And use what?

I defy you to name a currently active pixel-based image editor that can save files as math-based vectors. 😕😕

Different tools have different tasks.

Mohit's solution works, but I'd like to be able to control the size of the SVG that gets exported.

A jack-of-all-trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one.
