P: Pen Tool Not Working as it should

I have just updated Photoshop to v22.3 (10 March 2021). When I try to use the Pen Tool it puts the nodes in but doesn't create a linking line. I have closed everything and re-started my PC but the error still there. I've been trying to find a way to report this to Adobe but this is the only feedback area I can find. I have been using Photoshop for over 20 years and using the Pen Tool all that time. I need to complete a job but I'm now stuck as I need this tool.

Can I uninstall this update?

Anyone else having this problem?

Do Adobe monitor this feed?

Hi,

We're happy to announce the release of Photoshop 22.4 which should include the fix for this issue. To update Photoshop to the latest version, you can check: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

For information on other issues fixed with this update, please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html

No one is contesting that it is a bug and that it needs to be fixed.

And it was, in my opinion, quite the disappointment that it went unfixed in 22.3.2

Alas – if only all bugs in Adobe software had such »simple« work-arounds …

I appreciate your input sincerely, but it's still a bug that needs to be fixed, so users should continue to post until it is fixed. Every time someone encounters the issue, they have to spend non-billable time finding this workaround (like I did this morning). We pay subscriptions for operable apps, not band-aids.

Just upgraded to 22.3.1 and this issue persists. Points are visible; paths are not visible.

Looks like this has been going on for a while now, and the latest version does not fix it.

The work-around is not necessarily working on a Work Path but maintaining a Work Path; as long as a Work Path exists, even if it is just one PathPoint, one can work on the named Paths as expected.

I've just had the same problem. After playing with it for an hour or so I've discovered that the PenTool seems to work properly if I simply start drawing to produce a "Work Path" and then give it a name when I'm done. If I select "New Path," name it, and then draw, all I get is isolated points – no path. After the "Work Path" is named, when the path is selected, only the path itself is visible – no points. If I select the Pen tTool, then Command-Click on the outline, the points magically appear and can be edited.

Here we are in April and I just tried updating again (since CC keeps bothering me about it), naively assuming that a month and a half later this would be resolved.

Shame on me for thinking that the devs at a multi-million dollar software company would think it prudent to fix arguably the most important path-related tool in their flagship software. I swear, the moment Affinity Photo has feature parity for everything I need, I can't wait to cut the subscription cord...

Thank you. I will do that.

There is a simple workaround that has been posted about a dozen times in this thread. Create a work path, and leave that work path in the path list. You can then create new paths with + and name them what you like, and the pen tool will function normally. There is no need revert to previous versions.
