P: (Sept25) PS 27.10 AI Assisted Editor: Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2) fails with "Something went wrong"

I'm experiencing a persistent issue with the Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2) partner model in the Photoshop 2026 AI Assisted Editor (Beta) with Firefly. It worked normally yesterday (Sep 24) but stopped working today (Sep 25) and has been failing for several hours now.

WHAT HAPPENS

Every generation attempt using Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2) fails with: "Something went wrong. Please try again later." (see attached screenshot)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Open AI Assisted Editor (Beta) with Firefly

2. Upload a reference image

3. Select model: Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2)

4. Enter a prompt (e.g. vintage photo restoration prompt)

5. Click Generate

6. Result: "Something went wrong. Please try again later." - no image is produced

WHAT I'VE ALREADY CHECKED / RULED OUT

- Internet connection is stable

- Generative credits are not the issue: 2,960 / 4,000 premium credits remaining (see screenshot), plan resets Oct 15, 2026

- All OTHER models work correctly: Firefly Image 5, GPT Image 1.5/2, FLUX.1 Kontext, FLUX.2 pro - only Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2) fails

- Signed out and back into Creative Cloud - no change

- Reproduced independently on TWO different computers/accounts - same error on both, which rules out a local machine or cache issue

- Checked status.adobe.com - no incident currently listed for Creative Cloud / Firefly / Photoshop generative AI services

ENVIRONMENT

- Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.10.0 20260824.r.26 9d9635d arm64 (final, Release)

- Operating System: macOS 27.0.0

- Hardware: Apple M2 Pro, 16 GB RAM

- Plan: Creative Cloud Pro (4000 credits/month)

I am experiencing the same issue with both Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 in Photoshop. As soon as I try to generate an image, I immediately receive the message: “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”

Other models are working correctly: Firefly Image 5, GPT Image and FLUX are able to generate images.

My Creative Cloud Enterprise account is active, and I still have 3,860 generative credits remaining out of 4,000.

The issue therefore seems to affect specifically the Gemini / Nano Banana models. I have tried several times, but the error is always immediate and consistent.

It was just happened to be the first image of the day that we were to edit. Research found that some political figures and others were taboo, but judging by your post, it was not because of that. Will try the closing ‘all the way’ out of Creative Cloud desktop (after finding out how to do that correctly). thanks

@canyoncat77, sorry, I should have explained that better! From the three-line menu, Use File > Quit Creative Cloud.

How many Generative Credits do you have? i.e. do you have enough that you can afford to experiment?

Looking at the astro image first, it is 2832 X 4230 pixels so you will suffer image quality loss using Gemini 3.1 on the entire image, but you need it for the interior of the truck.

Do you have this as a RAW file? If yes, then that is absolutely where to start with an image like this.

Opening it in Camera RAW shows that the blacks are crushed up on the left, but it looks like there is plenty of detail you can win back there.

The truck windows are mostly completely blown, so there is no point in trying to fix them with Camera RAW even if you have the RAW file, but you can bring out some detail in the foreground.

I have added much more detail to the prompt. More is usually better. Say the same thing in different ways. Add redundancy. This is the prompt I used:

Fix the blown highlights in the truck windows. Add detail to the interior of the truck, and give it a warm light that appears to come from the truck's interior light above the above the central rear view mirror. Add a second light source inside the truck that appears to be situated in the centre of the truck's roof in the typical vehicle dome light position. Both interior lights to be around 4000K. Add a feint rim light to the person sitting at the back of the truck. A meteor has entered from the top right corner and is positioned slightly left of centre and one third the height of the image from the top of the image. The meteor has left a trail of sparkling light behind it. Brighten the logo on the truck's door.

This is what it gave me.

I am going to post this, but I have not finished yet.

I was not expecting it to recreate the entire image, and that is not good because it will have caused some quality loss because off the image size. So, I’ll try again, but turn off the other layers. I am going to remove the meteor from the prompt, and see if I can get it to not make the rear door invisible. And it completely stuffed it up. I get through 8000 generative credits a month, and I am still learning!

Keep the truck unchanged other than the view through the Truck windows, and the rim light to the person sitting on the back.

I am going to do it again, but this time Duplicate the square selection to a new document, and trim the transparent pixels. Same prompt as above. And it seems to have done the job. :-)

Because I used a perfectly square selection (Hold down the shift key and drag with the Marquee tool) it should fit seamlessly into the rest of the image. This is the full res image so you can click to expand. It fits perfectly, but is slightly darker.

I fixed the darker tone issue with a clipped Curves adjustment layer, and I reduced the brightness of the man’s rim light with a layer mask with Density set to 50% (which made the rim light half as bright.

Hey thanks for getting into this and I really appreciate all the help.

I do spend hours editing my astro images but when it comes to light painting, there are edits that AI could save time and give me new inspirations and that’s the reason i bought credits. I have 1200/2025 left and I’m only annoyed because there’s a problem and I can’t fix it. Also there’s no online support talking to a staff addressing the current issue.

But all and all I sincerely appreciate everything you did.

I have studied all the posts here and seems like we all have the same problem going on.
I guess I will wait.

I stopped using the assisted ai panel. Using Gemini Pro in the classic mode on photoshop and it works fine.

@canyoncat77, is this happening with every image? Is there something unusual about your image of President Lincoln? I tried this just now without any problems (Windows 11 Pro; Photoshop 27.10.0 Release). Have you tried closing all the way out of Creative Cloud Desktop, then coming back in and launching Photoshop from there?

We have been using AI assistant withoutany issues and have 1700 credits left. This first happened when we tried to edit and image of President Abraham Lincoln. Research find that this may be prohibited and the program has not worked since that attempt.
