Parts of layers missing on reopening a saved psd file

I was working on a picture blending and merging images together creating a background for the subject. I saved it as psd on my computer and upon reopening parts of imgaes are missing . It has never happened before.

Why does this happen? If anyone knows please tell me . It would be very helpful.
