Question

PDFs no longer compatible with Photoshop

I've been using Photoshop as normal but for some reason if I save a photoshop PDF then close the file, I am unable to reopen it again. An error message will pop up saying that this document is not compatible with this version of Photoshop. I am currently on photoshop 2024 but I tried going back to 2023 and I'm running into the same issue. My computer is fully updated with windows/firmware/etc. and meets the system requirements to use photoshop.I've tried having other people open the files on their computers and they also get the error. I can't use photoshop if every file I close becomes a stuck as soon as I save. Has anyone had a similar issue or know how to solve this?

Having the same problem! The only way to fix it for now was to roll back to 2023 version... NOT ideal at all. Any real solution for 2024??? Adobe, we need a fix on that quick!

Hey, I am also having the exact same problem. I've seen so many discussions posts about this with no solutions. I have two assignments due in the next couple days and I desperately need to edit my PDF's using all the layers I set up in photoshop. If anyone finds a solution, please post it here!!

Having the EXACT same problem with my device. Sometimes I'll get lucky and they'll open, but more often than not it says that my PDF is incompatible, even though the file was created and saved minutes ago. Started having this issue last week with PS2024, so I went back to PS2023 and the issue persists. Are they doing anything to fix this? I save dozens of PDFs a day (and have to submit them this way!), and haven't found a good workaround yet. Super frustrating.

I'm having the same issue and it's so frustrating because you'd expect the industry-leading software to not have so many problems. I worked on some files yesterday and save them as PDFs. Of the three files I created only one was able to open for whatever readon and I now don't have access to the files via Photoshop. I can open them in Illustrator or Adobe Acrobat but these are flattened image files. I've made sure everything is up-to-date and have made sure to check the necessary tick-boxes everytime, but keep running into the same problem and it's been about a month that it's been happening. If anyone knows at the very least how to open the files, please let me know and I'll just start saving the files as PSDs moving forward.

Update from me - the next day it started working again. Now my PDFs are openable in Photoshop again. I don't think I changed any settings.

The box has been checked on every file I've had the issue with. No luck with recovering the pdf's.

I have been checking the preserve photoshop editing capabilities box every time. Still haven't had luck with a solution.

I am having the exact same problem with one particular pdf document that i've saved as a Photoshop PDF. I even checked the Preserve Photoshop Editing box in the Save Adobe PDF window but everytime I open Photoshop, it says "(filename).pdf is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" yet i'm using the latest version of Photoshop. Please help.

Hi!

There is an Checkbox in the first screen of the Save as PDF dialog that says: Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities (see the screenshot below) Is that unchecked?

If it is unchecked, try checking it and see if that fixes the problem. Let us know if it does or if it the problem persists.
