Photoshop CC Extremely Slow Startup

Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 is taking maybe 1 to 2 minutes after opening the application before I can open a file or create a new one. The menus just freeze and you can't interact. The mouse pointer is very slow and jerky across the screen. If I flip to another application it operates just fine so I don't think it's a memory issue.

I don't think I have made any changes to make this happen, just started out of the blue. Obnoxious.

Windows 8.1, 64bit.

What is going on with Adobe these days.  First, the newly released Premiere 2017 has lots bugs.  Now this 2017 PS is even worse.  It takes forever to open a file after the program was launched.  Sometimes it even crashed.  Didn't they do any user tests before product releasing?!!!

Adobe,

Please notice this has been happening with Photoshop CC 2014, 2015 and now 2017 on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

Waiting 2-10 minutes to begin production is really a negative, ongoing experience with your brand for a growing number of people. Getting the thread email updates every day about this problem not being solved affects people's perception of your brand.

Re-installing programs, removing our fonts, not using our third party plugins, removing other Adobe programs we use like Premiere, disabling libraries, using faster hard drives, etc. aren't "solutions."

This never happened before the internet connected subscription based model of Adobe software. Your silence pushes creative leaders to look for new software solutions. We have to run efficient, reliable software to stay creative, innovative and make a profit.

2017 will likely be the year many creative professionals (including our agency) begin exploring the Affinity line of design software (Affinity - Professional creative software ) as more of the programs go both platforms, Mac & Windows. $39.99-$49.99 (WITHOUT SUBSCRIPTION) is a very low risk to try switching to innovative, award winning software. Definitely seeing some similarities in this situation about what happened with Quark when InDesign came out. Creative professionals have to have better tools that just work.

Hey guess what? Nothing's changed. Photoshop still takes 10 minutes TEN MINUTES to open up. Anybody from Adobe listening??? I've updated to the newest version of Photoshop CC 2017, reset preferences and even audited out bad fonts. I'm still stuck at Reading Preferences. Help! anyone? anyone...

I'm wondering if there is any update regarding this issue as I feel I'm not the only one having this problem here. I'm literally eyeing this thread for at least something. I'm getting quite frustrated.

As I noted on Nov 18, I too experience this 2017 slowness issue.

The startup has improved slightly, but the time it takes for the new "File > New" dialog box to display is quite slow. I do a lot of screen captures in my line of work and in 2016 I could initiate a new image from a screen capture very quickly. Now, I have to wait 20-30 seconds for it to get around to presenting the dialog box completely, and then I can use File > New, select the custom size (1st item in the list appears to be from the clipboard).

Hi Guys,

I've been experiencing this for awhile now on Premiere Pro CC. Every time I boot it up the splash screen appears for awhile and I have to wait around 3 minutes before the program shows up on screen ( has been happening for nearly a year now. I have closed one eye for too long already. After I saw this thread I believe I needed to share my experience too )

It's really frustrating and embarrassing whenever I need to get a quick edit done for a client. All my apps are up to date and I was hoping this 2017 update would fix this issue but to my disappointment this problem still occurs and to make things worse, Photoshop CC 2017 is also having start up issues. After the Photoshop CC 2017 splash screen the interface boots up and now it takes around 2-3 minutes to open a document.

I am on Win7 Enterprise, have Photoshop, Bridge, and Illustrator installed. I updated PS and Bridge, but not Illustrator because of the issues I am having with PS. And today, CC seems to be clogged up as well. I clicked on the app (in status bar) and get the spinning blue pattern... and wait, and wait, and wait... I closed it, gave up on it for the moment, needed to get work done!

I have continued to have the same problem. The only help I have found to speed up the process is to hold down the shift key when you open up your program.

I tried Shift+Click to start Photoshop.

While that works to display Photoshop. The initialization process after Photoshop displays and then is accessible is what is taking the long time.

Shift+click start posts a dialog box that allows me to skip loading add-ons and 3rd party tools. But that isn't the issue as I use Photoshop "out of the box". So, whatever initialization process(es) was added to Photoshop 2017 has resulted in a 5-10 minute lag in accessibility.

Do we know how often Photoshop staff check in to assist? I wonder if this is a glitch the programmers are looking at to fix. I had a goof problem in Dreamweaver very recently when I upgraded to a more recent Dreamweaver program and for the life of me, I kept receiving FTP errors. The folks here in the Dreamweaver forum couldn't help, nor could the company that hosts my website. In short, we were all stumped and had no idea how to fix the FTP error. And then I got a notice that Dreamweaver was doing an update and asked if I wanted to do the update. When I agreed and said YES, the next message was that the update would wipe out/write over the existing version. My thought was... what do I have to lose? And voila, with the update, the FTP error went away. Point being, I wonder if there will be some bug fix that Photoshop may offer us soon, seeing that a number of us have to wait so long to access our Photoshop programs.

I have the same problem here. I'm forced to wait 5 to 10 minutes for Photoshop CC 2017 to load. This is killing my productivity.

I just updated to Adobe CC 2017 and installed the newest Photoshop last Friday. I gave up using it because at startup I'd get the stupid blue spinning wheel for minutes on end. Monday, all seemed well, weirdly.

Today, the plague is back. It's killing productivity. I have no 3rd party add-ons.

I started photoshop 6 minutes ago and it is still giving me the spinning wheel. This is ridiculous, CC 2016 had no issues of this sort.

Start Photoshop, go get a cup of coffee, hang-out for 5-10 minutes and then get something done...

Something I have noticed is that a dodgy hard drive can slow down the start up.  I have a lot of drives, and I have a feeling PS looks at them all, and certainly looks at the scratch drive(s) on start up.  My laptop, which only has the two drives, opens PS in about four seconds (2 SSDs in a raid0).
