Rotate object system requirements

I don’t think the rotate object feature is working correctly on my pc. I have Intel Arc graphics, and here’s an example of the results I’m getting when I test this with some stock images.

Source images before rotation
Image I’m trying to rotate

As you can see, after it processes the image to prepare for rotation, I just get a jumbled mess. I’ve tried this with a couple of different images and get the same type of result no matter what. I also made sure the images are 8 bit RGB as I saw those being requirements for the feature.

I’m just wondering if this is a problem with my machine or an actual bug in the software.

    Alright!
@FFSB - You’re working on a ARM-based Windows machine. Similar to the Remove Tool not being available for ARM devices, there could be a underlying gap in compatibility here. I am checking in with the team.

@jamie_0983 - As per the System info, there could be two points of failure.

    1. Your machine only has an intergrated Intel HD Graphics adapter which may not be sufficient for the current and modern features. Please update the GPU drivers from Intel’s official website, or check if a discrete/dedicated GPU can be added to the machine.
    2. A group of our user report failures across Remove Tool, & Select Subject if their Windows username contains non-ASCII / Unicode characters, such as yours C:\Users\JGILLH~1\
Head here to learn more about this and find a possible workaround too:

@i-b-tex - Please check if the either of the above mentioned points help and let me know how it goes. Also, please do share the System info from Photoshop.

@Jeronimo_Prosegur - I’ve merged your report here. Please check if either of the above mentioned points help. Your machine has two GPUs, Intel(R) UHD Graphics & NVIDIA Quadro T2000 with Max-Q Design. Please update the GPU drivers & then follow the steps n the content here to configure the default GPU for Photoshop:

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Using Photoshop 27.7.0. When I try to use the Rotate Object function of the Free Transform tool Photoshop thinks for a second (even starts the progress bar running) and then throws this orange error:
“We’ve encountered an issue and can’t complete your request at this time. Thank you for your patience. Please try again later.”
I have done all of the fix suggestions and nothing works (yes, I have the credits, it’s 8-bit, and so on). Every other AI related tool works. From my research, the problem may be my graphics card, which is Intel Arc 140V GPU (16GB) (128 MB). I’ve encountered multiple people with an Arc that are having this same issue. We need  fix from Adobe - any chance one will be coming soon?

Hi @Daniel28446144ajx5, Thanks for reaching out! Can you send your system info, a screen recording of the issue, and a numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate it? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. Thanks! ^CH

The steps to replicate it are pretty easy…
    1. Open the image in Photoshop - I have tried opening it multiple ways: opening the file directly, opening a background image and then dragging the an image in, copying and pasting the image in, and so on
    2. Remove the background using the Remove Background function on the Contextual toolbar - I tried removing the background that way, not removing the background, selecting the subject and then deleting the background, and so on
    3. Press ctrl+T
    4. Click Rotate Object on the Contextual taskbar - I also tried right clicking the selection ad then clicking Rotate Object and well as selecting Rotate Object from the menu, and I did all of those while I had both the content layer selected and the mask layer selected
    5. Wait - Photoshop usually does think for a second and I do get the progress bar, sometimes for a very short amount of time and sometimes the bar get about 1/3 of way thru
    6. Get error message

The screen recording and the specs are both attached.

I think I found your banana, jt. I was able to create a document, run Edit>Rotate Object, then rotate the banana. I can’t record the screen because Adobe launches a pop-up advert for three plans -- $99-199/month -- to up my credits!

[I’d check my credit balance, but CC>Generative Balance has refused to display the balance (“unable to load section, Retry”) for days.

editing to add: canceling out of the ad stops the rotate object, so I feel extorted to upgrade.

I created a new document first, then put the banana layer on top of that layer, then edit>rotate object and still got the same result; a blank smart object layer on top. I’m about to give up, Lamy. lol Appreciate your help tho!!!😎

P.S. Below is another screenshot showing my

layers panel. The top layer is a blank smart object.

jt,try it on the original file -- don’t rasterize, don’t remove background. Edit>Rotate Object will find the subject, place it on a new layer and remove the background. That’s when the rotate dialog will appear on the new layer. This should work for you unless you are trying to rotate something other than the subject.

Thanks for the reply, Lamy. Tried what you said and unfortunately still the same result: a blank.😭 I attached a screenshot of what.happens below. When i go through the process, it creates a smart object layer above that’s blank. My photo was a simple banana against a white background and i did not remove the background or rasterize. This is driving me crazy. lol😟😂

I using Windows 11, have 27.6 installed, have all my drivers updated, am using 8-bit images, rasterized the layer and removed the background first too, but whenever I try to use the rotate object tool all I get is a blank image. I also reset prefs and even reinstalled Photoshop. Still just a blank result and can't rotate my object. Is this just a bug that they haven't quite figured out yet? I'd feel better if it is just a bug and not my computer. lol Thanks!

Oh, you’re welcome. I wish I could be more help. Can you describe exactly what you are trying to do with your rotated object (the coffee cup)? Did you try rotating the object by itself before placing it into the other image?

That did it! I could rotate the cup and then place it on the background. Then I also did the same with a photo of my daughter -- worked great. Dropped the new poses on the background, and I was able to edit their rotation. Amazing. So … thank you!  I really appreciate your help. Now, please tell me you are not a bot.

Hi @philip_5345, this probably has to do with your graphics card. 128 MB of VRAM is not optimal for current versions of Photoshop. Typically you want a minimum of 512 MB. Try going to Preferences > Technology Previews and check "Older GPU mode (pre 2016)" and restart Photoshop. Let us know if it makes any difference.

Thanks, but no luck. Here is that coffee cup again, after the Preferences change.

Trouble with “Rotate Object”: The object becomes a cubist abstraction as soon as it starts rendering. Upon accepting the generation, it simply becomes a more solid cubist abstraction. Color is similar to the original object, but the object is unrecognizable. (Attached image is/was a coffee cup.)

I have updated to the latest beta version of Photoshop (v 27.8). Then I restarted.

I ran the Windows Update for the machine: Everything is current. Then I restarted.

I have cleared my Photoshop preferences and restarted.

I have tried this with several objects (people, a stapler, a coffee cup). Similar results.

I remove the background of the object’s layer before hitting the “Rotate Object” button.

I save the layer as a smart object.

I select the layer before hitting the “Rotate Object” button.

Same issue, I tried what has been told previously, not better, this function is not working.

I have also enough credits in my enterprise account.

Should I try to use the beta instead of release 27.6.0 ?

    Hi there,

    I encountered the same problem.

I had already contact with Adobe support and they checked my system.

I have everything new installed, driver, creative cloud, new installation of PS without any plugins. But still the same error.
a friend of mine locked in on to my computer with his account and it worked perfectly.

So, I’m really frustrated about this issue.

It should have something to do with my account.

Maybe somebody else has an answer for this problem

    I would appreciate it

@ah photography I also am running into this issue, were you able to resolve it?

Not yet, but I just realized that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I think it’s related to the docs. Also ngl, I tried it and the results were pretty bad, especially with people and animals, so I just ignored it and lost interest.
There also haven’t really been many replies or discussions about it, except for Claire H.’s comment, which was somewhat helpful but still pretty limited.
